I grew up going to operas with my parents. (not that that makes me expert by any means) When I first heard Charlotte Church, it on was one of those "Patsy Cline's Greatest Hits" type commercials. I thought, huh that's kinda cool. With a voice like that already, she'll have an awsome one when she gets older. A kid with a voice like that is impressive by any means. But when I saw her on one of the MTV music awards I was like.. omg wtf?! Since when has mtv ever aknowledged classical music through a performance and what is she thinking. Not that it's her fault probably. She's just doing what she's told I imagine, since she probably doesn't have that much say in the matter because of her age. Still, I just think that she/her manager chose the wrong route if she wanted to become truly respected for her singing. Going the pop princess type route is a bad idea for anyone who's serious about their music. Sure it gets a larger fan base, but I guarantee that a lot of true fans of the music will think she's a joke. (just look at what DJ PíO and groovypants wrote) It's at the cost of dignity and reputation in the eyes of the true fans of the music.
I would also like to point out that the fans she aquires through this route will not be going to any operas she's in. Anyone that's her age doesn't have the attention span to willingly sit through an opera. Although, that would be funny to see. Better than that one old guy that's always at the ones I go to who end up sitting two rows in front of me and begins snoring half way through the second act. hehe
Anyway, I don't remember why I wrote all that.
