humm, sorry fast but your description is really to wide to satisfy my curiosity.
as for myself, cheesy tracks are made of cheap sounds and the ones that have an originality score of 0.
and i agree with you, cheesy is sometimes good.
for example: masterpiece of emotion-elios. good track. great morning trance.. nice after great partys, but hell, it is cheesy. cheesy piano roll, you can easily guess that the track was inspired by the miles's children trance movement.
the time factor has something to do with the cheesy factor.
years ago, oakenfold was playing good trance (EM ibiza99 personnal favorite) but hey, now in 2002, 70% of his set is cheese for many people.
what we call great today might be cheese tomorrow.
what was trance yesterday, is now dance on radio(and we all deny ever liking it!).
anyway, its my opinion,
ps. some cheesy tracks really sux and do not deserve to be in my "cheesy but good" bag
