Oh, right, Halloween!
Trick or treating isn't really a thing where I live. Even if it were, I'm sure we can all agree the scariest thing I could do is loiter in front of strangers' doors well into my forties in the hopes the sugar rush will give me the same saccharine high Technotronic once did. No, scrap that... the scariest thing I could do would be launching an autumn-themed bakery called Pumpkin Up the Jam. But middle-aged trick or treating could be the second most cringe inducing thing I could engage in, and you'd find out if you do that.
Instead, with absolutely no preparation or foresight whatsoever, other than the fact that I've already been butchering the Korean language for too long to justify my mediocre proficiency, this Halloween I decided to go study in Seoul this summer. Or rather winter, depending on who I'm disappointing. Just like that. Realised my paid-leave days at work were about to expire if I didn't yeet myself out of the university by December. So I did. I fired away the request, imploded my calendar, and now I'm dealing with the aftermath of what has been one of the most inconsequential seconds of my life. This Friday, I bought the plane ticket, found accommodation, and I'm leaving on the 30th this month. Eat your heart out, Lightning McQueen, I am speed. And desperation. And despair. Kachow!
Anyway, it'll be ninety days of relentless language immersion. If I don't make it back to Brazil, it's because I've upended my life and decided to become a K-Pop producer. And, make no mistake. If I ever go down that route, I'll be able to tell all haters "You thought I wouldn't make it, huh? Guess what? I really didn't!"
