Well it's Friday so I guess the post I made in the wrong thread yesterday is fair play here.

Long weekend so I went out last night after work to see Paul Woolford.

Hope it's working out!

My boy played a tournament in his age group yesterday and smashed it. Made it to the semis and scored the winning goal in extra time to advance to the final. Super intense. Most impressive thing he did was kick a beauty of a corner over all three defenders to his mate on the other side of the pitch for an assist (first goal to tie it before he won the match for them). They eventually lost to the city's best program (they were way better collectively as a team) but he scored his team's only goal in that match. I keep saying I can't believe he's five doing the things he does. He has me beat in every way physically and mentally. Super proud of him. They have scouts at these tournaments and he said a few guys came over at various moments and asked his name. Weird but cool. It's been a massive commitment and roller coaster of a ride but so worth it and rewarding. Moments like these, this is life. It's the journey and not the destination. When I'm doing all this with him I think about it so much. No matter what happens, we made it happen.

As a fellow parent, this was an awesome read!

Happy Halloween!

Sooooooo I use this ancient ad software that was redirecting to Google DoubleClick for Publishers (now Google Ad Manager) - I haven't logged in to that for 6 months and now my acct is deactivated so I can't edit anything. To edit the logo at top right I'd have to do some semi-nuclear obliteration of existing code and I don't have time to fiddle with at the moment

Here ya go:

Oh, right, Halloween!

Trick or treating isn't really a thing where I live. Even if it were, I'm sure we can all agree the scariest thing I could do is loiter in front of strangers' doors well into my forties in the hopes the sugar rush will give me the same saccharine high Technotronic once did. No, scrap that... the scariest thing I could do would be launching an autumn-themed bakery called Pumpkin Up the Jam. But middle-aged trick or treating could be the second most cringe inducing thing I could engage in, and you'd find out if you do that.

Instead, with absolutely no preparation or foresight whatsoever, other than the fact that I've already been butchering the Korean language for too long to justify my mediocre proficiency, this Halloween I decided to go study in Seoul this summer. Or rather winter, depending on who I'm disappointing. Just like that. Realised my paid-leave days at work were about to expire if I didn't yeet myself out of the university by December. So I did. I fired away the request, imploded my calendar, and now I'm dealing with the aftermath of what has been one of the most inconsequential seconds of my life. This Friday, I bought the plane ticket, found accommodation, and I'm leaving on the 30th this month. Eat your heart out, Lightning McQueen, I am speed. And desperation. And despair. Kachow!

Anyway, it'll be ninety days of relentless language immersion. If I don't make it back to Brazil, it's because I've upended my life and decided to become a K-Pop producer. And, make no mistake. If I ever go down that route, I'll be able to tell all haters "You thought I wouldn't make it, huh? Guess what? I really didn't!"

Seeing Sasha and Digweed tomorrow (Friday) night at an underground event here Los Angeles. A first for them in this city. Not a true UG event but it'll beat seeing them in a club/festival that charges $18 a beer.

Keep meaning to get back on here and post but it's already been months since I was last on. Going to see S&D in LA tonight too, flying down from Portland. They tore it up in Dallas in September, should be a good time. And hope to meet some TAs! Been ages since I met up with anyone on here (2006? 2007?)

edit: flight cancelled, going to have to miss it, gutted

Our boy had an interview at a bilingual public school earlier this week. It's a short tram ride away from home in a beautiful area and a five minute walk from the school where my wife works. He's picked up German well over the past year but we were still nervous since it's super competitive. Anyway, we received the great news that they'd love to welcome him next year. Really amazing for him, and I'm proud of how well he handled the process. He really liked the school when we visited and was so happy to find out the news.

Aside from that, we're headed to Budapest for the weekend. I initially booked a solo trip for myself to see Andrey Pushkarev. But now we're going together and dad will sneak out in the middle of the night for a dance and get the morning to recover in the interconnected room next door.

As Dreamstate is in LA this weekend I'm amused by all the old schoolers freaking out now that Tiesto is finally paying a little attention to Trance again.

I hope his set lives up to the hype

I have a lot of old friends heading to the event this weekend. Was never a huge Tiesto fan (more S&D fan instead) but I'm still curious how this "trance" set goes. Pretty stacked lineup.

Happy Holidays TA!!!

Hoping everyone gets to enjoy a little something next week however you happen to celebrate. If you don't happen to celebrate, hopefully you get a few days off from work to take it easy for a bit.

We'll be traveling from Southern California (Los Angeles) to Northern California (San Francisco Bay Area) this coming Sunday. The plan is to visit a variety of friends and both sides of our family. Although the week won't be a true R&R vacay, we're still looking forward to seeing everyone.

Our usual holiday visits are only 4 days but this one happens to be for 7. A little longer than we prefer for these family/friend visits. We've got plans to stay at a hotel at the start of the week (2 days), followed by staying at family members after, and finally another hotel towards the end of the week (2 days as well). A bit different from our normal visits I wanted to be less of an inconvenience to our siblings.

Plans:
Lots of booze and karaoke! Go to songs are everything from the 80's and 90's yo!!
