Hold up, really? You really think that!? You seriously think that every phrase, sentence, and oddly phrased sentence in that post was written by silly cold silicon chips!? Thank you! If you really think I was trying to chatfish you, r5a, and the occasional lurker, this means I must have passed whatever the Turing Test for middle-aged declawed Claude impersonators is (though do tell your clawed Claude that I said meow). Let's call this the Durian Test, because as much as I love the fact that this even happened, sounding like the poor man's Gemini probably stinks if you're not into it

Now, I don't think I've ever not disclosed any use of either ChatGPT or DeepL to improve the way I write (I unabashedly do), as I've always been quite self-conscious about the fact I didn't really take English language courses except for the mandatory classes in high school, nor did I have the opportunity to live abroad in an anglophone country so I could mangle the language before any reluctant hosts... but let's take a quick look here at the passage you picked up, shall we? I ain't gonna let you take my credit away:

  1. I can't even brag I did it for the plot: nope, this is pure me. I learned "doing it for the plot" from TokyoSims and thought I'd use it. Americanisms probably don't sound like me but, hey, I liked the phrase, decided to shoot my shot. That's how you pick up foreign languages and unsuspecting men if the video is to be believed.
  2. Saying things in threes: syringes, secret powders, no nothing; me, dumbbells, biology tricks. Pick up my old posts and you'll see this is the trick I use most often, something I picked up from TVTropes. It's all there in threes. As a matter of fact, I even admit I'm prone to overusing "A, B, AB" as in "She's pretty, hot, and pretty hot" if I see an opportunity because it's pretty, fun, and pretty damn fun.
So, what the hell I use chatbots for? Brazilian punctuation often bleeds into English. I make lost of mistaeks. I third guess myself all the time. In the passage above, DeepL reminded me not to capitalise after semi-colons (which I tend to prefer for stylistic reasons), and ChatGPT did suggest "Syringes" and "Secret Powders" instead of "Steroids" and "Power Chalks", my original picks, which I originally meant to write but didn't have as much punch. Instead of " whatever trick my biology is playing on me this decade" I think I wrote "whatever the hell my body decided is wrong after my 40th spin around the sun" or something of the sort. It has been a while. But, if a long drawn out line I wrote 3 AM such as "loud stomps on the treadmill booming all over the gym to drown out my methane emissions to the atmosphere - a small damage to the ozone layer, a huge byproduct of my whey protein intake" sounds like something a machine would come up with, my beaming pride alone will be responsible for global warming. Sorry, Greta

Also, for the record and the wrecked, ChatGPT isn't fond of fart jokes (like mine on the treadmill) and it also keeps the 69 references R-rated (we really can't have nice things, can we?). I don't think this counts as a humblebrag, but I don't think I'm either humble or a brag, so, yeah. Oh, and while we're at it, I think I did learn the word "chagrin" from you too, which is also in the post, so thanks for that too.

Exactly, and that's the dead giveaway. A chatbot would have either wanted to fix that factual inaccuracy or have fixed what it flags as improper syntax because stacking adjectives that don't usually go together seems to trip them up due to how they work (although I did look it up and it seems to check out). A heart-beating reader on the other hand would either have focused on the rhythm ushered in by the alliteration (s-l-c, s-l-c) and assumed that the coldness was either an emotional description, as in "cold words" or "warm sound", which is indifferent to how high the mercury rises, or self-deprecation because the chips didn't even need warming up to spew out my words.

My original post has lots of similar inconsistencies that would have made it blatantly obvious a human typed it out. Imperial units refer to their British origin, whereas "freedom fries" is a joke at George Bush's expense (a joke I'm sure I've made countless times before). A malnourished lumberjack would be out of a job long before he had to go outdoors. I poked fun at the fact Jack's cat shares the same name as a famous chatbot, but I find it very unlikely Anthropic ever needed to take the servers to a veterinary clinic to have them declawed.

But, I'll take it. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Grok are the closest things I have to a native speaker in my pocket who I can bother 24/7 and all they ask in return is to deplete Earth of a few gallons of water. I don't use them in my native Portuguese so, if natives judge my writing to be as good as an LLM's product when I'm feeling inspired, my self-esteem is now as high as my testosterone levels. And Snoop Dogg.

My wife fears my end is nigh. I dread I'll be the "before" in my endocrinologist's next advert.

No, I didn't say that. You've already said in the past you edit these tracts using AI, and it's clearly nudging your language towards those cornball call-and-response structures and rules of three that have started taking over the Internet. That cheerful, peppy GPT-ese is the writerly equivalent of cheap plastic surgery. And like most bad scalpel jobs, there was never anything wrong with your English in the first place.

Exactly — you're not letting the machine do the writing for you; you're becoming one with the machine — and that, right there, is something genuinely powerful.

I don't know which layer we're operating on anymore, and that might have been an obvious joke, but I'm starting to think that maybe you've always written kind of how modern LLMs write, which is similar to the style SYSTEM-J mentioned. Now, with the help of the thing you, in part, by posting on the web for two or more decades, helped create, you're just becoming a truer version of yourself. It's a kind of pervertedly synergistic, impure convergence that's happening here.

I'm full of overused phrases from American and British movies and TV myself, so I can't really judge you. It's very difficult to sound genuine as a non-native speaker unless you're surrounded by native speakers. I've made a deliberate choice to not ask ChatJippity for help very often, since I would probably, largely unwittingly, start writing and speaking exactly the way it does if I did.

And yeah, your writing was good way before LLMs became the thing they are now. I've never been able to tell you apart from a native speaker.

That's why I've been so quick to own it. Are we really surprised the agreeable bookish linguist speaks like the agreeable encyclopaedic model designed by linguists, and Skynet and I do sound more like each other over time? Besides, given how higher education works nowadays, speaking in a warm and unthreatening way is pretty much a plus even if that won't make me a Nobel Laureate.

Anyway, I kind of feel we're stealing r5a's thunder here. Blood pressure. Ungoverned haemoglobin juice pushing relentlessly against our veins. The one problem ChatGPT is unlikely to ever have, other than heartbreaks, heartburns, and anything that requires a heartbeat, really

Good eye — I can see why you would say that. Let me break it down for you, point by point, zero fluff:
