According to a recent interview with Sasha on GU SF. CD 1 captured the sound he was playing in SF while CD 2 captured the sound he was playing at Twilo, NY. He stated that SF was one of his favorite cities to play in around the time.

My early days of clubbing were in SF and attending Spundae at 1015 Folsom nightclub were always legendary parties. Seeing both Sasha and John perform there were some of my most memorable nights/mornings of partying.

have't seen this interview but i have though this regarding disc 2. There were quite a few Twilo anthems on there.

NY was fittingly my first, so I have nostalgia for that. I also liked Sydney, Amsterdam, and Miami.

Most underrated ones for me are Buenos Aires, Lima, and Lithuania.

Couldn't get into the James Lavelle, Tony DeVit, or any of the ones commonly considered "bad" (Felix, Adam Freeland, Layo and Bushwacka)

Lima is a great snapshot of what house music sounded like in 2008. It definitely deserves more respect in the GU series.

I posted them a little earlier in the thread. If you've got time to kill (and are bit of a Sasha fan like I am), check them out:

I suspect, with hindsight, they were probably kicking themselves for letting Oakey have New York. GU:009 was definitely the Twilo GU, whereas Oakey's entry was much more of a Cream tracklist.

This a good point. I enjoyed the Oakies NY GU album but someone like Digweed or DT would have been a better fit to capture the sound during that era.

I've seen you shit on Oakenfold before, but I guess you're not alone when you do.

Good DJs featured in the "nu breed" series, rather than the main show, even though they weren't new breed at all.

Am I really "shitting on" him here? My point is that he had no special association with NYC. In 1998 he had the hottest residency in the UK in Liverpool at Cream, and GU:007 is absolutely the sound of Cream. Whereas who had the hottest residency in New York? Sasha and Digweed. And GU:009 is absolutely the sound of Twilo.

The problem is Liverpool wasn't exotic enough for "Global" Underground, although ironically enough GU inlay writer Dom Phillips tells a story in his Superstar DJs book of two Brazilian fans of Oakey who travelled all the way to Liverpool to see the apeman play there, had the best night of their lives and then slept in the toilets at Lime Street Station before catching the train back to London to fly home. So what's a "global" party destination is very much a matter of perspective.
