I think this is the most important part of finishing off a tune. The mix. Like so many have said before me: You can't fix a bad mix with mastering, you can -however- fuck up a good one.

Personally I seldom do much mastering apart from some limiting to raise the overall volume. Compression and eq I add to the individual tracks. Everytime I've tried to do some extensive mastering, it always ends up sounding worse than the source. Some stereo expansion and subtle eqing I can do though. There's very much to say about this. Interesting thread, and I hope to read more posts here Will probably post some more here later as well.

Peace

i generally cut everything below 10 hz...
even though we can't hear anything under 20 hz if you play the music on very loud sound systems... you will definately feel the difference...

i also cut basically everything above 16khz because any sounds at that frequency will just be irritating to the human ear... (for example scratching a chalkboard with your fingernails)

the only exception i would say for cutting above 16khz is for goa or psytrance where the high frequencies basically give an "eardrum-bleeding effect"...

that depends on how you dose it. Check it with normal CD's they have stuff above 16 K in it too. Cutting something means letting out something that's what it is and that's what it does, and personally I'm pretty fiercely against that.

edit: ok, above 16 K there's not much hearable (a bit) going on but still

I arrange my track in Reason, and then move all faders of all mixers until there's no clipping anymore. After that I export it and master it in T-Racks...is works good for me, but it is far from High Quality ... Trancevision
