nah dude i didnt mean that....kinda went off on a tangent
what i meant that in australia its different...most ppl are league fans not union
the majority of union fans in australia are those that play or have some involvement in the game (i dunno what its like in other countries cept new zealand)....like ppl say they are a fan of rugby cause they watch the test matches....hmmmm kind of an l33t way of putting it aye

all in all each sport is as rough as the other really
take away the padding and the "violence" would go down i reckon
no1 will ever sway me when it comes to this topic
cept for lacrosse
woo that shit is wild

here's one you guys have failed to mention,...Lacrosse.
specifically, Box Lacrosse.

it's at least as rough as hockey (even if the season isn't that long)

key things to remember: no gliding/coasting like in hockey
you can slash your opponent all game long
there are fights (like hockey)

You could get seriously injured in football (michael irvin, and etc) but i think Hockey is tougher......Not because they fight, they skate like 30 mph and slam people into the plexi glass....thats gotta hurt

Visit Europe or England alone.

Yeah, sure rugby is tough without pads and all, but the speed of the players is pussyshit compared to the NFL...theres a reason why the NFL is hailed as the most successfull sporting league in the U.S(a country where sports has an unbelievable, ridiuclous impact on society). American football moves at an incredible pace...it's a game where the true form of winning is mental intimidation, and this comes with how fast you can outrun or how hard you can hit...and both extremes aren't pretty at times.
The NFL may seem like a bunch of oversized muscle heards trying to kill each other, it's much more deeper and less blunt than that...it's a game of wits combined with pure physical play, and that's why I think football is a much more rough and physical sport than hockey.
While hockey does have it's dangers, such as a rubber puck flying at fatal speeds, and players using natural inertia to hit each other, that's not the point of he game...hockey is more of finesse and precision OVER physical play. Of course, in any sport, physical dominance is a key factor, but hockey relies less on this and more on technical skills.
That's not to say that hockey isn't physical or hard...I'm sure it takes skill to manuever a puck while a bunch of guys are flying around the rink at dnagerous speeds, moreso to evade and get a shot off. Hockey is a real sport...a physical sport.
I'm not gonna defend football because I feel I don't need to. Just look at a game..that should tell you enough.

Mate i've played rugby since i was 6 or 7 years old. i've lost over 5 team mates with broken backs/necks(not dead just unable to play). it's not a pussy sport believe me. for instance have you ever taken a raking from a rugby stud when the wind chill makes it feel about -5, i think not, these rakings are legal when performed correctly, which feels far worse than takin a punch, especially when it's on your head. Why do u think rugby players are all so ugly(at least the forwards anyway). From experience i can safely say rugby is a dangerous sport. califlour ears are not uncommon, most players over 25 have broken noses at some point in there career and deep gashes on the head part of the games. trust me rugby is far more physical than both these sports. the only reaon it's not a huge success is because it started out as an amature sport and unwillingness to turn pro in the 60's 70's and 80's kept it as a good old fashioned amature sport, unlike you money grabbing football and hockey players.

Don't talk shite. the reason for this is because padding gives them a false sense of security. they think they can make bigger hits than there size allows them to. they hit a big guy the wrong way they get hurt.

You say they have the most injuries. that proves fuck all. The only thing that shows is that american football players get hurt easier, which would suggest they are in fact not all that tough. Rugby players would very often try to run off serious injury, which is why they suffer so much when they stop playing.FACT. I know this cos' i've done it myself and now at the tender age of 18 my back and my knees are fucked because i've recently stopped playing due to work commitments.

And by the way i think you find soccer players suffer more injuries than american football players and thats hardly even a contact sport what with all the diving nowadays. another point which goes to show that injuries don't = tough. I THANK U.

the topic is about hockey and american football and the main focus was which is rougher compared WITH EACH OTHER. it does not say roughest sport in the world. it does not say rougher sport than rugby. why does it seem like its a necessity for people to always bring another sport thats not related into the discussion? i notice its either australian's bringing rugby or europeans bringing soccer to the discussion table. sorry to stereotype but it seems like that is the usual case all the time. you love your sport, thats fine but we don't need to hear about it all the time. ESPECIALLY IN THREADS NOT RELATED TO THOSE SPORTS. its really pathetic guys.

we want to discuss about hockey and american football. so if you don't have any contributions to the actual topic, why post?

the stanley cup and nba finals are coming in a few months. i'm sure someone will start a thread about them and we will more than likely be talking about soccer, rugby and basically anything BUT the main topic.

i think rugby is a rough sport. i also think american football is a rough sport. which one is rougher? i don't know. i haven't played either in a true professional league or amatuer league. what i am saying is, unless you played the sport at a high level, don't knock it. in the end, everything you think is only opinion. there is no device for measurement of roughness in any sport.

Football why do u think there is only 16 games, imagine an 82 game season for football with 2 to 3 games a week, carrers would be very short with injuries.
