Hmmmm... One thing I've noticed is that when I go shopping for pants, the store person goes " Would you like to buy those PAIRS of pants" ... But I only have one piece of pants? Could this be referring the the actual pairs of leg sleeves on the pants? If so, does the word "PANT" exisit??? I've seen on a Tommy Hilfiger label saying that it was "The Original Pant" ?

oh heck no...
if you visit the states, remember:
- pants = anything that goes from waist to feet
- shorts = pants cut off around the knee (abbreviation of "short pants")
- slacks = formal pants (as with suit/tie)
- boxers/underwear/panties = undergarments (bottom layer)
- jeans = denim pants in variations of blue/black
- khakis = light colored cotton pants
- trousers = nothing
- sidewalk = thing on the side of the road you walk on
etc..

oh good god... i'll use ur definitions, but match it to the correct word
"Anything That goes from waist to feet" = Trousers
"pants cut off around the knee (abbreviation of "short pants")" = Shorts
"undergarments (bottom layer)" = Pants/Boxers/Y-Fronts/Thong/Underwear/Knickers
"light colored cotton pants" = Light Coloured Cotton Pants Actually i think we say Khakis as well.
"nothing" = slacks <--- rofl whoever came up with this word
"thing on the side of the road you walk on" = Pavement
and a fanny is a god dam fadge!!! not an ass... grrrrr

How come they don't call long pants/slacks/trousers "longs"
like "shorts" for short pants/trousers
always wondered why no one called it that
