but talking about HHC, I was at a rave recently and a dj spun hhc and it wasn't mega cheesy and I actually loved it


kimmi came along and she was also thinking she might have to kill a kandi raver before the night was over , but cause the music was nice we didn't have to settle for destruction

Cheesy can mean a lot of different things. To me it can be music that is made just to please radio listeners or music without any soul. That isn't to say that no effort was involved in making the track but if people can't sit back and say "damn that was a great track" or at least want to listen to it in 1 month or 1 year or even 10 years from now. A cheesy track is there one day and gone the next. They never really become classic tunes either, like who actually listens to Cotton Eyed Joe now? Everyone has guilty pleasures and although cheesy music is bad it's nice to let go and listen to it every once and a while but in 10 years from now no one will remember it or even care about it. Cheesy music is like the no name brand music, it's cheap, it might not be the greatest but every once and a while it doesn't kill you to go for lower grade.

YES!!! That is why sooo many tunes over time get classed as cheese! The longer a tune has been out, the more chance it has of being heard by ANYONE, and ANYONE could be a person who decides to buy it, and therefore has turned into cheese.

When everyone heard Southern Sun (Tiesto remix) for THE VERY FIRST TIME, a lot of peeps on this board thought it was a fantastic tune. Now, almost 6 months on, it has been out on general release, and made te top 40 (in the UK) and been voted #1 tune on ASOT 78. Many peeps have now classed it as cheese. It is very sad to see how vicious we can be with the classification of a tune after it has become succesful.

Examples of tunes that have been classed as cheese after lengthy exposure are Alice DJ - Better Off Alone. In my eyes, the Signum remix is a fantastic tune, and the original isn't even that bad. I bet that the very first time that any tranceaddict heard it they thought it was good. However, Alice DJ producers din't exactly help there cause by making a load of shit after that The same with Sandstorm. After repeared exposure it got a bit annoying, yes, but that was after hearing it left right and centre. For the first time it was heard, i thought it wa quite good, definately different from what was out at the time. However, after Darude realised that his 'sound' was quite catchy, he had raped it and caused himself to become commercial.

Success is most definately desirable. Success is linked to chart ratings. imagine when , say the new dumonde tune came out next week, and we all went out and bought it, thus propelling it to a top 5 posistion. Just because it got into the chart, does that mean it is cheese? Let me remind u of classic tunes that did well in charts. Adagio for Strings, Gouryella, Walhalla, Beautiful (1st generation realease), Out of the Blue, Cry, Gamemaster, and many others. They should NEVER be classed as cheese, just because they all got good chart posistions. Btw the tunes mentioned above all got into the Top 20!

I think you can get sick of a song but cheese deserves a category of crap all it's own, and Southern Sun shouldn't be in it.

First off, cheese just means commercial IE is appealing to a wide range of people

Don't entirely agree, cause for example Gouryella - Gouryella , Airscape - L'esperanza and Dumonde - God Music also have highlighted synths, what makes the logical song's and others' riffs commercial is that their riffs sound like someone is singing them, they function as vocals (Which we can agree are a serious boost to a track's commercial value )

I find cheesy music to be happy music. Makes you feel happy and good about everything around you, maybe thats why people listen to it and why producers make it that way. Uplifting trance is happy music too only higher grade then cheese. Gouryella makes some quality trance but its uplifting and not cheese. It's like cheese only with more effort

And I find that cheese appeals to a large audience but so can trance or other forms of music and still be good. Theres a difference between making music just to please people and making music for peoples enjoyment that you pour ur heart and soul into
