Ahh, right - I had a feeling there was a discussion about that one earlier but cannot be sure.

Ligaya is definitely original though... I think the classical bit was done by someone else than Ferry but it was done for Ligaya to begin with.

yes. the melody is an original classical piece composed by john ewbank.

lets contribute some more tp this thread i find it very useful..many Dawnseekers/Geert Huinink tracks have classical influence in them..

gothic dreams, mohave, gobi, magikal journey..

and recently, Classical Trancelations was a good attempt at combining modern day trance music and classical.

Holy moly guacamole! When knowledge from the past can help in the future!! It's funny because I listened to most of Vangy's 1492 but *NOT* that track. Something about the name always bothered me. WOW *CONNECTION EXPLOSION*!

And in another bout of weirdness... dj tek, thanks for bumping this thread. I once relayed this info to some fellow trance fans but they didn't believe me, even when I pointed them out to proper attribution on a certain website. BTW, It's actually John Ewbank. Not to be confused with Kevin Eubanks of Saturday Night Live fame.

Here's my contribution to this thread:

The albums of Vanessa-Mae (she has a "best of" out) and Bond. I could generalize and say they are sexy ladies who play stringed instruments on top of club beats, but ahhh... they do it so beautifully. Personal highlight for me -- ah, hear it for yourself --

The Best of Vanessa-Mae

And oh, if you enjoy electronica and opera, you may also want to check out the project known as Operatica. The fusion in the name sez it all.

The precursor to much of this, of course, is a series called Hooked On Classics, which was basically a wonderful medley (it would be called a "megamix" today) of classical favorites performed with a thumping disco beat.

Good classical crossovers with trance are fairly rare because it is a rare person who enjoys both. Classical music snobs still refer to synthesizers as "fads that will pass" and I've heard DJs go "Mix in key? !@#$ that, screw theory!" Bah, no boundaries I say... there is so much to learn...

HEHEHE... I have that CD, it's the front cover of her rendition of The Four Seasons. Her versions of Autumn and Winter are quite fun!

Well, in holland there's a singer who sings the tracks john ewbank produced so there was a track with that classical part from ligaya in one of the songs of "Marco Borsato"and it
's called "voor altijd"

Don't forget about the Sensation white Anthem of the year 2003. It was done by Rank1, and they used the main melody of Bach's "Lacrimosa"

A very good, attempt. It's still one of my favourite CD's nowadays. You have to hear Signums remix on "Properity in a new world"!

Yes, I heard about that. Have a lot of this one, though:

Svenson - Sunlight Theory
Rank 1 - Symsonic
DJ Gert vs Marcel Woods - Once Upon A Time in the west (based on the music of Ennio Morricone )
Angels & Wippenberg - Angels Theme
Above & Beyond - Albinoni

I actually got half of this album! Gonna check on the others too!

lets get this straight..

those two guys are Geert Huinink & Alco Lammers
in my opinion the best two guys on Black Hole

gotta mention their biggest alias, Photon Project

Photon Project - Enlightenment / Illumination
these two tracks have big influences of classical music,
just as many other of their productions.

other aliases worth checking out:
Dawnseekers
Twenty Something
Threesome (with Cor Fijneman)

Gerrt Huinink also wrote the classical parts for DJ Tiesto - Magik Journey and Forever Today.

can't agree here though, that CD was horrible. ;/
