Holy moly guacamole! When knowledge from the past can help in the future!! It's funny because I listened to most of Vangy's 1492 but *NOT* that track. Something about the name always bothered me. WOW *CONNECTION EXPLOSION*!
And in another bout of weirdness... dj tek, thanks for bumping this thread. I once relayed this info to some fellow trance fans but they didn't believe me, even when I pointed them out to proper attribution on a certain website. BTW, It's actually John Ewbank. Not to be confused with Kevin Eubanks of Saturday Night Live fame.
Here's my contribution to this thread:
The albums of Vanessa-Mae (she has a "best of" out) and Bond. I could generalize and say they are sexy ladies who play stringed instruments on top of club beats, but ahhh... they do it so beautifully. Personal highlight for me -- ah, hear it for yourself --

And oh, if you enjoy electronica and opera, you may also want to check out the project known as Operatica. The fusion in the name sez it all.
The precursor to much of this, of course, is a series called Hooked On Classics, which was basically a wonderful medley (it would be called a "megamix" today) of classical favorites performed with a thumping disco beat.
Good classical crossovers with trance are fairly rare because it is a rare person who enjoys both. Classical music snobs still refer to synthesizers as "fads that will pass" and I've heard DJs go "Mix in key? !@#$ that, screw theory!" Bah, no boundaries I say... there is so much to learn...
