drugs should have nothing to do with the difference between a rave and a 'club' party.. but alas is does due to stereotypes.. :[
in the end, u'll find drugs at both !!
on a side note, whenever i browse thru Tribe.ca (a more ravey site in the eyes of some) i get the feeling that a lotta ppl there don't know too much about international DJ's that a lotta TA's dig. does anyone get this impression too .. hrmmz i wonder if it has anything to do with the whole rave vs. club thing ..

Um about the Tribe comment, Em I think it's that the people that post on tribe are more into local dj's that frequent raves (at least more so now) instead of the more popular international djs that USED to frequent those same raves but now hit up clubs.

well one year later and did any of our opininons change?
a rave is simply like some mentioned is a special event thrown out by a promotion company with a few headliners and a bunch of local DJs. i see this is creating confusion though and even though this 'rave' concept is meerly differs from one person to another.. therefore it is undefined.
The impression i get when i think about it though is slightly different.
For me, a rave is an all night outdoor party in a HUGE venue that can support numbers like 10 000 to 20 000, if not more. A rave can last only all night or over a few days.
In my books, WEMF is considered a RAVE. Even though it happens yearly but it is a) outdoors b) can hold ALOTTA ppl c) lasts for 3 days.
are you just REALLY bored rite now or do you like goin thru old ass threads for fun ??

I think it has more to do with the fact that there aren't that many trance fans on Tribe. I've always considered tribe a very club-oriented site. It didn't start out that way, but it certainly has progressed to that.
For a while there (late 90s before the big decline), raves were all about the big international headliners too. A big part of the reason the current generation of ravers and rave promoters are into more local DJs is because as the crowds have declined, so has the amount of available capital to book DJs. That, combined with the rising price of international DJs (especially trance DJs like PVD, tiesto, and AVB) has led to fewer international DJs getting booked for one-off rave-type events. Only the clubs, with their bigger marketing budgets and liquor incomes can afford them!
I think that a Rave is a big party where there are dj's spinning electronic (I.E Trance, jungle, DnB) and everyone's dancing and having a wild time.....whether its at a club or a warehouse, i call it a rave....
