ok firstly im going to state that im female, hopefully i will give a no bias womens opinion, but i cant promise anything...so here it goes

firstly i am totally against conscription, i can't comprehend how a government can decide whether or not YOU, have to fight in a war for them. Yet, you do not see the president or prime minister in the front line, i doubt that they will send their own children to war, they sit back and give the directions....and think about it here, do they really care about you? I dont think they will be upset if u get slaughtered, the only thing they care about is, if they win the war.
and in my opinion, no one wins a war.

I know in australia conscription took place during the vietnam war, ok so what do they do.... its like a lottery system, pull out numbers, to me its just like the nazi's and the gas chambers... its a death sentence.
... so they send you away for a few months to train and then throw u into the battle line... Where people in the army train for years sometimes... So what if you don't want to go, it being either you are against the war or whatever... You are going to have a negitive attitude towards it, therefore it will ultimately effect the way you fight, it will effect everything.
I know with myself... if i dont want to do something, i dont put my wholeself into it. The outcome wont be as good, as if i wanted to do it, i would try harder.

Secondly, i dont see why women can fight in the front line. i think physically we are weaker then men, but you have to think pyschologically women may have an advantage, and if you think about it, if a war does errupt now, it wont be the same warfare used, i think this war will be more advanced, the front lines may not even exisit. I seriously doubt that trench warfar will be used, like in the world wars ect.

I personally think the excuse, that women are the child bearers is pathetic, yes it is envitable that women will die. But you can't use this as an excuse. Coz then i can turn round n say, oh men in the front line, thats crazy coz they carry the sperm which makes the next generation.

quote:
Lastly, in the experience of the Royal Navy, regardless of how well women have performed, they have been met with hostility. I applaud their courage, yet what has been found is that the men do not resent them for the fact that they are women, but because they complain. Men have put up with conditions at sea for years. Cramped, often noisy, and imprivate conditions have existed for years. However the women who have gone to sea have complained from the start, making demands that men would never dream of making

I don't think that all women would complain about issues, can u just imagine how hard it would be for these women, No one wants them to be there, yet for some reason, they put up with it. I just think one factor that men dont want women to fight in war, is because they want to be the superior ones, they see these women as coming in and taking away what was once their own job.
I personally would not consider going to war, coz i dont believe that there is a justified reason to killing masses of people, for at the end outcome to be nothing.

I totally agree with you! Women should be allowed when they are strong enough. A healthy body and a healthy mind!

I didn't say it is because they are child-bearers. In fact I spent some time elaborating on my point and you seem to have taken it out of context. If you read my elaboration, you will see that my point is that a society which sends it's women to the front line is morally bankrupt because it is naturally the childbearer who has the greatest influence on the development of the next generation of children. You are welcome to challenge this assumption, but it isn't an "excuse". The implications for society if tens of thousands of women were returning from the battlefield, psychologically damaged by the horrors of war, could be massive. It is rephrehensible enough that men should be so full of bravado about war, and that society to an extent glorifies this. Fighting on the front line sometimes demands the individual to kill out of necessity, to commit one of the most uncivilised acts of mankind. Extending this role to women may one day be the norm, and you'd have to ask yourself when that is the case if society has moved in the right direction .
