Er, listen to what the man has to say, he know's what he's talking about
Being a good DJ is about a lot more than being able to mix, infact I'd say being able to mix well is a pretty low priority in my books as far as trance DJ's go. As long as they can create a fairly smooth transition without losing any flow of the set that's what's important. Don't forge they're playing for the crowd and not for the thousands of people who'll download the mp3 rip to analyse the next day. DJ Tiesto has talent in my opinion; his tune selection is usually spot on, he can read a crowd brilliantly and can play a pretty wide selection of music well, depending on the occasion.
His mixing, however, is well below par when compared with other DJ's of similar status (or even less status). For some this is important, for others it's not. I havn't seen him since Novemeber when he played Gatecrasher NEC and I thought his set was one of the best of the whole event (along with Yoji & Underworld) but actually take a listen to the mixing, the transitions are pretty basic & even sloppy at times.
