I had this same problem, as well as everyone of my programs is taking very long to load. My Norton Anti-virus has expired so I cannot check it for a virus so I just basically cleard all the files/programs they I don't use anymore and it cleared up 4GB. This still didn't work. So I decided to call my Pops on this one. He asked if I ever clear my internet explorer temporary internet files. I said yeah, of course I do. But they way I was doing it was different from what I should be doing. So to get to the point do this:
1. open windows explorer
2. go to "documents and settings" folder
3. then go to your name, mine is under the "steve" folder
4. then go to your "local settings" folder
5. from there open your temp folder
-delete all files that exist in there
-a couple you will not be able to delete, maybe like 2 or 3 files
6. after that, go to your "Temporary Internet Files" folder
-Do the same as you did in 5
After I did this it free'd up only a respectful 100mb of space. 100 mb of random files is some what hefty in my opinion. So there you go, after you do this your programs should open faster, considerably. Everyone should try this, it really works. I have WINDOWS XP by the way.
peace,
Steve
