Ive been using fruity since the first release a few years ago. Back in those days you had to buy the 404 cause it came as a freaking demo... well no other synths came with it, the 404 was the new thing back then.. Anyway after years of experience with fruity, I find myself comfortable with it, and wouldnt really want to switch to anything right now. I dont like reason because I think the sound is very shitty... and reminds me too much of rebirth (ew)

Word...that was the "REASON" (lol) for me to leave that program and switch to Cubase SX and Softsynths.

ok, i would like to help out with some misunderstanding some people seem to be having.

its not the program that makes shitty sound... its the user. how can someone say the actual sound quality of an audio application is shitty? well they probably just say it, but that doesn't mean they are right... and they aren't right. if you think about it with a little common sense you will see that its how you use it. ive heard tracks produced ENTIRELY with reason that sound like they were sent off to a mastering studio. And the same is possible with any audio application as long as there isn't just something inherently wrong with its code. The quality of the sound depends on a lot of things. Mostly its the samples you use. If you start with crap samples of course the end product is gonna sound like crap... why do you think people will pay a lot of money for the specialized giga sampler setups? because they have very long, thus very real sounding samples. Now for synths the quality all depends on your ability to tweak the knobs and add equalizers and other effects to shape the sounds coming directly out of the synth into something that doesn't suck. Certain synths have better sounding presets (FM7, Absynth) than other ones (subtractor, 3osc, etc.) but that doesnt mean that the sound quality sucks... it just means you are going to have to mess with the sound you are generating more to get it to be desirable... As for the sound quality of reason vs. cubase vs. fruity vs. whatever, i don't think any sort of difference really matters because then you are getting into arguing about internal precision of the software (like you know what it is anyway.. or do you work at propellerhead or steinberg or something?) so if you can't tell by listening then why should you even care? you probably shouldn't. Ok, now that we have cleared that little issue up, it all goes back to how you use the tools availble, not which ones you have (sometimes having certain tools makes it easier than if you had other ones, but thats still a subjective matter and not an issue of sound quality). I personally like to jump around between different software and use combinations when i write music. i used to use fruity a lot, then i moved to reason, and now i use cubase some too. Im looking into emagic logic audio platinum and when the new fruity studio comes out im sure i will use that too... but seriously, we are working with audio by generating digital sound signals and then modifying them a WHOLE LOT digitally (that's why the internal precision of a program isn't really that important). the sound quality of all these programs is fine... its all about how you use the software and that is really the bottom line. if it sounds like crap, then FIX IT,don't blame it on the software!

^^^ so true.

Its sad how some people think that buying (or warezing) the latest super masterizer app v5.4 will make all their tracks sound "pro"

i've heard better music from just buzz noise generators going through a bunch of filters than what some people produce with $$$$$$ worth of audio software/hardware.

Its the man not the machine.

That's true. In the end, it's how we 'manipulate' the machine, but people seem to give up easily. At first I hated Fruity Preset sounds, but when I started making my own synths, I started to realize how cool the program is. So instead of giving up, I spent hours, weeks, and months making my own synths. It was hard, but it was worth it, since it really helped out a LOT, of my tracks.

Patience my friends...patience. Look at the work of artists like Lightworks (who's songs are amazing! Great use of VST's Lightworks, and good creativity Robstar!). I bet Lightworks had problems when he started, but he had enough patience to fulfill his dream of making great music, and now he accomplished it.

The user a few posts above (Extalin) made this cool Breakish, Trancey track. It was nice, smooth, and sounded like he used thousands of dollars worth of hardware equipment. Turns out he used a program that was affordable, and managed to win respect from all the users who heard his song, of many musical tastes. (Including mine, since I was doing a little remix lately!)

That's all I gotta say; Manipulate those machines, and be prepared to be locked up in your basement/rooms, tweaking those knobs. Later. -Mental
