I agree that veterans deserve the utmost respect.
I don't want to experience anything that they had to go through.
But just because they are veterans doesn't mean they are right.
Of course I wouldn't say that "that was the biggest load of self rightous nationalistic crap" to his face.
And I have a feeling that that specific veteran or really any american war veteran from WW2 is not going to be reading these forums.

I also think that in many ways veterans do get screwed and disrespected by society and our government, and thus do deserve more respect.

but what i say here doesn't impact them in anyway.

Us helped France fight a defensive war (although France was partially responsible for that war imo). But now US demands from France to fight an offensive war, and that is a big difference. Besides, comparing Iraq to Nazi Germany is really out of the picture. Germany actually had the means to conquer the surrounding countries. Regardless of Saddam's wishes, he doesn't have enough army to conquer any country of relevant size in his vicinity. When his military was on peak of its might, he couldn't win a war with Iran. Now his army is much weaker, so he'd hardly win a war with Kuwait now, let alone one with a real country.

Monkey Dancer 2 its all the same...

I think no matter where you go in todays world you won't find veterans getting the respect they deserve. But honestly, here in Israel, everyone is more a less a veteran from some war in the past, and no one honours anyone else more then another because of this, unless they are ofcourse, in the army with the uniform and all the buttons etc

I think a veteran once out of the army to keep his honor up, must use his experience in his field to advance him in that field using the veteran status as a kind of 'nitro' if u know what I mean. Like if the veteran wants to go into psychology, he can say I was a vet so I have superior expertise in this and this... I think this is the only way a Vet can retain his honor once off the battlefield and back in the city...
