once u really think about it its pretty fair, for a relatively small club of 2000 ppl @30$ a ticket, which is cheap for tiesto/pvd or whatever...its 60 000$, yes there are lotsa other costs, but venues make money of drinks and stuff too....now take a 40000+ event which costs 70$ and u gotta shit loada money to give to the djs

I think they do fucking deserve it, prolly more too.

I had the same argument with some guy at work and he wouldn't beleive me that Dj's get that much for events, he just kept on saying that Beyonce(the one in Austin Powers) gets more money than any dj i can name with no fucking facts. He doesn't even know who i am talking about.

It pissed me off so much, i just walked away.

Some ppl huh ?

BTW i need some like Real Facts to prove this guy wrong, anyone can help ?

I'm pretty sure it varies from club to club, venue to venue etc. Cuz I paid $12 to see Tiesto on a saturday in Dec, and I paid $30 to see PvD last saturday night. Soooooooooo

Let me tell you though, the extra dough was weeeeeeeeeell worth it!

"I’m a dance floor favorite? Great! I would say the passion that I feel for the music I buy and the honesty with how I play it. I play the records I love not the ones that simply work. I’ve never taken the easy music option (which would make me a lot more money by the way) but chosen to push people a little. I try to draw people in a new direction slightly and expand their taste a little more than other DJ’s." - Lee Burridge

gotta remember its not just 2 hours spinning, its 8 hours travelling accross the world to get to the venue, 3 hours a day listening to tunes sent to you and all the extra sheit that goes into the job.

still, for 20k....

I heard that big names get between 10 and 25k a night. Im not sure about the fluctuation of the price depending on the importance of the night but it makes sense to charge more on certain nights. I do know theres a guy trying to get Tiesto to come down here and he said that Tiesto wanted 22k to play here.

It would be nice to get to be big time.... only the huge guys make that much...

As for all the inbetweeners

House party DJ's get roughly 50-10 bucks if that.
Back up DJ's @ clubs in Chicago ( I know a few club DJ's there ) get between 100-200 bucks a nite
and the resident DJ's generally walk home 300-500 bucks a nite.

Still nice... but it is so fucking hard to break through and get a residency @ a club that pays well. Look at me. I started @ 25 bucks a nite doing the lites and opening in a top 40 joint.....Now i am at a reformed 19th century church that pays me 300 a nite and i can play what my electronic heart desires. no top 40 from my fingers.

it's kinda sad when you hear about these amounts of money being involved. it also is sad when you see a local talented dj who cant even get a club gig regulary show @ a big event show up someone who is making $20,000 when they will get maybe $250.
