When I makd a "Prog" set, it'll have both house and trance. But trance is house, so the line is fine.

Prog can mean everything from prog house, to prog breaks including prog trance. Hell, it can even be Technoy.

Prog = trance - melody

Usually the other elements of the song are somewhat improved to compensate. It's good chill/atmospheric music, but I don't find it very energetic.

ok for me being a progressive head to the fullest i have to say most of you are very wrong....progressive is a well established genre its not necessary a typical style of beat or what...its more the mood set. Progressive can be House,Tribal,tech,break,trance,etc... and still carry the same progressive mood set .. you can pretty much put them in together and it will fit... most progressive lies in the house/trance catagories but progressive isnt limited tot hat.. Thats why progressive djs have such a big plate of genres to really work with like i listed on top and still carry the progressive vibe and mood set.

Progressive djs:
Sasha
John Digweed
Sander Kleinenberg
Danny Howells
Nick Warren
Chris Fortier
Jimmy Van M

Producers:
Chris Gainer
Paul Rogers
Marc Obrian
Lexicon Avenue
Nukem & Chab
Steve Porter
Bill Hamel
Thomas Penton
Junkie Xl
James Holden
Charlie May
PMT
Lee Combs
Tony Thomas
Pilivian & Zimbardo
Piece Division
Gpal
ect....if you notice there is Tribal, trance, house, breaks, ect but its still progressive

Damn I'm more confused now than I was before. I still don't get what progressive is exactly. Sometimes I hear music that sounds totally formulaic like trance, only to find out it's labeled as a progressive track....ahh it really doesn't matter to me in the end....

Prog is the music that never get sick of
Funny thing is most newbies find it boring.( You need musical ability to understand it )

That's actually very wrong. Progressive *is* a genre and is short for "progressive house". It's a genre that started around 1995 or so (some say earlier),

it was earlier than 95. william orbit's guerilla records was one of the first progressive house labels. can't remember what year it started but it was around in 92.

pvd played a lot of progressive house earlier in his career. the first track he played in Vancouver was "I Know You Like It" by React 2 Rhythm and it was on Guerilla Records : ).

By the late 90s, Trance had pretty much become it's own genre,

trance was its own genre way before the late 90s. see -> mfs records, berlin.

anyways, my take on what progressive house is (at least what it was when it first started):
it has house rhythms but was more electronic sounding. it could have trance elements in it (eg. uplifting synth lines) but unlike the trance tracks of the day by MFS or Eye Q, the tempo was slower (eg. house rhythms).

since music styles mutate and terminology changes meanings (eg "industrial" music), i will let you guys argue about what it means now : ).
