see in my mind, I always consider progressive seperate from progressive trance. True prog trance is prog but i always view that progressive was the evolving of the prog trance. If you look at all the dj's who played prog trance (and damn good prog trance imo) in 1998 and 1999, you have nick warren, john digweed, sasha, dave seaman. If you listen to their gu cd's....like gu006,gu014,gu019 and MMII...you hear the evolving of John Digweed's Sound and the evolving of the path that his music formed. Nick Warren, Gu003,008,011,018 and you hear how Warren evolved from playing trance to playing progressive. I have not heard gu024 yet, so I'm not including it yet but I figure that it probably is an evolving from gu018 which was his last one. I have the cd...have not listened to the whole thing because my stereo cd player broke and refused to gimme back any cd's and it had gu018 cd2. So I wait....
Look at Sasha's music, he played trance then went prog house, breaks, tech house and progressive. John Digweed has taken a sort of different route because he has gone deeper into deep progressive house. Then again, all music tends to evolve because most of these artists like to experiment. Nothing tops gu013 btw, such an album. |
I agree. Sasha - Xpander = trance IMO. It just builds up (sure slowly and steadily but it BUILDS UP that's the point). Most prog tracks I've heard of like Bedrock - Emerald, etc don't have a build up in the same way that Xpander does. It's just more mellow/funkier (it has a groove to it) whereas Xpander has lots of energy, it's meant for you to go crazy to partying. Just what I think.
