I agree. Sasha - Xpander = trance IMO. It just builds up (sure slowly and steadily but it BUILDS UP that's the point). Most prog tracks I've heard of like Bedrock - Emerald, etc don't have a build up in the same way that Xpander does. It's just more mellow/funkier (it has a groove to it) whereas Xpander has lots of energy, it's meant for you to go crazy to partying. Just what I think.

Emerald builds up more like a trance tune does than Xpander :P Hehe, and to me Xpander isnt a tune that i'd go crazy to (although I think i would if someone dropped it); for me,its more magical and surreal...the type of tune that you just completely lose yourself in

And TT, thats an interesting take on prog/prog house/prog trance...it's really funny how people can have different views on the same thing; funny in a good way, that is.

As for Nick Warren and his next GU; all I can say is that it's really different. I've only listened to the first 3 tracks of CD1 and it has a very chilled out feel to it. I'm a little dissapointed that CD2 only has 9 songs on it..oh well, hopefully it'll be good.

edit: back to xpander for a sec; I don't know why i have this association with it, but i always think of different shades of blue when hearing xpander

I lose myself in Xpander all the time. It's great. There's more to Xpander going on, sublayers. Emerald is just funkiness.

And it still amazes me how still 90% of people on here don't know the difference between progressive trance and progressive house... wow!

Nah. It takes a long time to learn the difference by hearing the songs of the diff between prog house, prog trance and progressive. Takes time imo for newbies to learn....then again....even for us veterans...some music is on the line between genres.

I Picked trance over prog mainly because I have a lot more of it in my music collection. To me, the best in trance vs the best in prog is too close to choose one or the other...i just find that there is more quality trance than there is quality prog (it's probably just because I use the DC Hub tho ) Still...I love them both to death...Sasha is one of my all time fav DJ/Producer so that also contributes to my prog side...

Progressive takes a bit more time to like than trance. You can't simply skip 3 minutes of a prog track and determine whether the song is good or bad based on the buildup...becuase there is none...it's more thoughtout than trance is, which doesn't make it 'better' but it's not "boring" like most people say prog is.

And classifying songs can be tricky...I don't even bother classifying Xpander anymore...it has trance elements and Prog elements (I guess that would be progressive trance but whatever)...How do you classify PVD? If trance is all about the buildups than PVD is not trance...but He is too transy to be considered Progressive.

Almost all DJs / Producers would never classify themselves into a genre of music. They do this for a reason. They play what they like and produce what they like, it doesn't matter what it is.
