Whoever said that Canada has the worlds 3rd smallest army is full of shit. There are tens of countries that don't even have an airforce. Many countries don't even have a standing army. |
Oops my mistake... I meant to say, Canada spends the 3rd least amount of money into their military out of all the countries that do have military spending.

All you people who say that Canada couldn't exist with the US are only looking at one side of the story. You quckly forget that Canada is the US's largest trading partner. It's fair to say that they couldn't exist without us. |
This is not true. The reason Canada is the US's largest trading partner is because Canada needs America's money, so Canada sells goods to the US for very cheap. This includes wood, and oil. In a way, the US is using Canada to get cheap products.

As far the american military protecting us, what exactly are they protecting us for? Last time I checked the americans haven't valliantly stopped any enemy attacks. Infact, the last time I checked the americans got the white house burned down by none other then the canadians. Perhaps they should work on protecting themselves. |
Obviously, for you, the word history does not have a timeline in it.
Does this mean that if I'm Jewish, I should always keep my eye on all Germans, because for all we know any of them could be a Nazi?
Also, does this mean that if I'm Canadian I should try and burn down to White House?
Things have changed...

Dr. Z: Time to look like an idiot.
you sited canada has having the 3rd lowest WORLDWIDE military spending. Pulled that one out of your ass?
Canada and global military spending patterns
By US standards, Canadian defence spending is abysmally low, but at just over over $12 billion Canada is in the top 10 per cent of military spenders worldwide. The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) lists the defence spending of 160 countries in 2001, with Canada ranked at 16.1 The former US Arms Control and Disarmament Agency, in its last report, used 1997 figures to rank Canada 16th from the top of a list of 167 countries (and 6th from the top in military spending per soldier).2 The International Institute of Strategic Studies (IISS) in London ranks Canada as the 7th highest military spender of NATO’s 19 member states (within the top third of non-US members). In a list of 46 European and North American states, IISS ranks Canada as 8th from the top – in other words, Canada ranks within the top 20 per cent.
You said that Canada needs americas money, and thus sells it's goods very cheap.
Canada needs american money as much as america needs Canadian goods. If the americans could harvest trees or produce oil at cheaper prices they would. They can't so we make BILLIONS! off of them. Why do you think they thew a fit at the softwood lumber on the west coast? Because they couldn't come close to our prices even though we're making a killing. I suggest you brush up on your economics. Canada isn't getting the raw end of the stick here. We are both eachothers largest trading partner. It's a two way street here. If we all of the sudden blocked the border it would be chaos. We wouldn't have any finished goods, and the americans wouldn't have any raw materials.
you then proceeded to blab on about world history and timelines? You don't seem to have a point. So I won't bother trying to argue with nothing.
On to the next moron.

I'm a typical human. If you took a look around the world, bush doesn't seem to have a lot of allies. He is considered a moron world wide. He thought africa was a country for gods sake.
as far as the spelling, I type quickly and don't proof read. I imagine you do the same or you wouldn't have spelt "tipical" => typical?
anyway.... ignorance is bliss i suppose.
for the record. I don't hate americans, though some americans would make it pretty easy.

Nicely done. Copied right out of http://www.ploughshares.ca/CONTENT/BRIEFINGS/brf026.html, anything else you comment on?
After some time searching I've found a site that compares the military spending of a few countries. Now tell me how much Canada spends. And remember, there are only a few countries in NATO. Scroll down, look how much the Philippines spend, Malaysia, Indonesia...

Canada needs american money as much as america needs Canadian goods. ...

Umm, there are other countries that the US can get their raw materials. Russia, South America. The reason they get it from us is because its cheap. They don't have to pay all these shipping costs and the rest of that mambo jumbo. Canada can't do that, some other countries need raw materials but its too expensive to get it from Canada because is isolated from the rest of the world. Canada is only in direct contact with the US.

Lol!
Read it again.
I said that, some events happened because the world as we know it was totaly different than it is now. You can't say the US should watch its back just because Canada burned its white house 200 years ago.
Sigh...
