Rally Info

Here is some infor a a BIG rally going down in NYC on thursday....

Thursday March 23, 7:00 A.M. Onward, NO Business As Usual! Stop The City
If They Don't Stop The War!
Decentralized autonomous direct action throughout the city will stop
rush hour traffic. Classrooms will sit empty and employees will NOT be at their desks. Roving street blockades and civil disobedience will fill the intersections. Marching together hasn't stopped the war so now let's swarm throughout the city in smaller groups and greater numbers. Those who oppose the war will join with others and stand up for justice.
This action will be the culmination of consensus meetings in which many groups were represented including:

United for Peace and Justice
No Blood for Oil
Not In Our Name
NYC Anarchists
ACT UP NYC
RCP Youth Brigade
The Brooklyn Greens
Loud Brooklyn Dykes
Brooklyn Parents for Peace
Hunter College Student Liberation Action Movement
Reclaim the Streets
The Pink Bloc
Shift Control
Black Cross
Medical Activists of New York
Not In Our Name Youth
Wetlands Activism Center
Williamsburg Peace Coalition
Industrial Workers of the World New York City Branch
and others

And this:
An ad-hoc coaltion of anti-war groups is planning a massive non-violent
civil disobedience at 8 am on Thursday, March 27.

The group agreed to target the media/government collusion that is
promoting this war to further corporate interests. The Rockefeller
Center area was chosen as the target since many media and corporations have offices there or nearby.

The plan is for a massive die-in on 5th Avenue at Rock Center, with
coordinated actions planned by affinity groups throughout the city.
Spread the word as widely as possible - a flyer will follow shortly. A website is being established at http://www.M27coalition.org tonight.

The action will take place near 5th Ave. and 50th Sts. There will also be space for a legal protest at the action. A pre-action meeting is planned for Weds evening, March 26, location to be announced.

Disrupting the city is as simple as 123:
1) Pick your target -- any busy street or intersection will do.
2) Your affinity group takes the intersection until the cops come and then runs away to a new street or intersection.
3) Rinse. Repeat.
* This is just one idea. If your affinity group has a good idea, go and do it!
* Keep the details of your action confidential.
* Coordinate clusters of affinity groups to hit a target over and over throughout the day.
* Be creative, stay out of jail and on the move.
* We will support each other by having lots of groups doing lots of actions all day.

Wear goggles and bring water! The NYPD use pepper spray alot. Consider wearing defensive clothing as well (Padding, soccer padding on forearms, bike helmets.) Bring Banners with pole support, they are very effective in keeping off the police!

an email i got:

With all of this talk of impending war, many of us will encounter
> "Peace Activists" who will try and convince us that we must refrain
> from
retaliating
> against the ones who terrorized us all on September 11, 2001. These
> activists may be alone or in a gathering.....most of us don't know
how
> to react to them. When you come upon one of these people, or one of
> their rallies, here are the proper rules of etiquette:
>
> 1. Listen politely while this person explains their views. Strike up a
> conversation if necessary and look very interested in their ideas.
> They
will
> tell you how revenge is immoral, and that by attacking the people who
> did this to us, we will only bring on more violence. They will
> probably use
many
> arguments, ranging from political to religious to humanitarian.
>
> 2. In the middle of their remarks, without any warning, punch them in
> the nose.
>
> 3. When the person gets up off of the ground, they will be very angry
> and they may try to hit you, so be careful.
>
> 4. Very quickly and calmly remind the person that violence only brings
about
> more violence and remind them of their stand on this matter. Tell them
> if they are really committed to a non-violent approach to undeserved
> attacks, they will turn the other cheek and negotiate a solution. Tell
> them they
must
> lead by example if they really believe what they are saying.
>
> 5. Most of them will think for a moment and then agree that you are
correct.
>
> 6. As soon as they do that, hit them again. Only this time hit them
> much harder. Square in the nose.
>
> 7. Repeat steps 2-5 until the desired results are obtained and the
> idiot realizes how stupid of an argument he/she is making.
>
> 8. There is no difference in an individual attacking an unsuspecting
victim
> or a group of terrorists attacking a nation of people. It is
> unacceptable
and
> must be dealt with. Perhaps at a high cost. We owe our military a huge
debt
> for what they are about to do for us and our children. We must support
them
> and our leaders at times like these. We have no choice. We either
> strike back, VERY HARD, or we will keep getting hit in the nose
>

so support american troops..punch a hippie protester in the nose!

the shortsightedness of that argument is astounding. someone has to take the higher ground, or it will never end.

the harder we punch, the harder they punch back, the cycle will never end. take a look at Israel and Palestine, maybe you will understand this. or Northern Ireland. Violence only exacerbates the problem.

and in the current situation in iraq, WE are the ones striking the first blow, not them.

As long as america keeps up the "war on terrorism" it will continue to thrive. if they turn the other cheek, pull their armies out of muslim countries, then it will end. Every bomb america drops creates another terrorist, why can't the war movement see this?

this is flat out false.

Scott Ritter, former UN weapons inspector declared iraq 90 to 95%
disarmed in 1992.

Scott Ritter is the only former weapons inspector to have these views. Most former weapons inspectors have exactly opposite points of view. Also, did you know that Mr. Ritter has been on the Iraqi payroll for some years now?

its a fuckin email .. its a joke.

We need to do a little "global house cleaning". Saddam needs to be removed for no other reason that he tortures and kills his own people. Other leaders of countries who act in the same way also need to be removed. We can never achieve world peace if people like this our allowed to stay in power. Well, there will never be world peace because man by nature is greedy. Greed is the reason behind every action. Until you can find away to de-program that from our personalities there will always be war.

As for your boycott of American products .. I commend your stand, but I think it will be hard to find something that doesnt have something in it made in America. It can be American Grain in your bread or a food dye in the drink your having. No matter what you do, you will still be making us richer. If you can find something that is completely "American Free" it is going to astronomically priced or created in some sweatshop by 8 year old girls (which american companies also use). The choice is your who you want to support.

What other inspectors chairman have their been? I am only aware of Richard Butler. He was the one responsible for bringing in the CIA and Mossad spies that eventually got UNSCOM in trouble, and led to the removal of inspectors before the gulf war. Here are a few links on richard butler

http://www.scoop.co.nz/mason/stories/HL0208/S00006.htm
http://www.wsws.org/news/1998/dec1998/but-d24.shtml

in the face of this scandal, UNSCOM is now no longer used, and instead a new organization UNMOVIC was formed to circumvent the US from using the UN to spy on iraq.

hatred towards the west was started the day the country of Isreal was formed. The US is the only country that backs them, the rest of the world washed their hands of Isreal after the whole world decided to break off a piece of Palestine.

Other people hating you and attacking you isnt a reason to not do the right thing.

if you think the war is wrong and immoral thats an arguable stance.
