Ha ha, yeah they do. So I just say that I listen to techno and they're like "o yeah" or I say club music sometimes.

Trance and America is a good thing. People who get pissed off about something becoming mainstream are just selfish. Relax, it's supposed to be about the music...not who heard something or bought something first. It's only a matter of time before electronica becomes mainstream...

The only person I bash is Oakie. I'm entitled to my own opinion. Life would be very boring if everyone agreed.

Oakenfold WAS an innovator and a pioneer who's accomplishments have paved the way for many other DJ's.His sets lately though leave a lot to be desired. Oakenfold is very arrogant...no other DJ would proclaim themselves as the greatest DJ in the world (in Muzik Magazine, fall '99). You would never hear Michael Jordan saying that he's the greatest basketball player that ever lived. Oakenfold knows what he's worth and I feel that his outlook on life is just dollar signs in front of his face instead of being all about the music. He's always looking out for #1....trying to endorse his name and milk everything to the last drop. He doesn't look out for his fans and as a result he's losing them. One of the reason's I love PVD so much is because he's ALL about the MUSIC.

I give Oakey credit but I have no respect for him. I really feel Oakey is not in it for the music and djing now, but rather for the fame and fortune... which is really sad. There are a number of reasons I say this:

1--Oakey plays the same set everywhere he goes. He is spinning the same records. As one of the superstar dj's I expect more. A dj with his status receives numerous white labels, and has access to vinyl most people only dream of--SO PLAY IT!! Status and label are no excuse for laziness and lack of creativity. His set-up is such that he can easily move from venue to venue making money.

2--Oakey's "tour of America" is fast-moving, high-priced, and short-lived. I can understand a dj trying to push his music but Oakey has intentionally set up his tour with the same short sets, delivered to a maximum number of people, in as many venues as he can, in order to make money efficiently. He hardly ever spins for more than 2 hours and charges high prices for the same set he spun in a city the day before. There is no excuse for this because these days all the big dj's are traveling, yet find time to change their sets and play for extended hours. I think he feels he is a celebrity giving a concert rather than a dj at a party.

3--I have heard numerous accounts of Oakey's arrogance and disregard for his fans including turning away autographs distancing himself from fans at venues. He is very demanding in terms of money and amenities according to people who have had to deal with booking him for gigs. He has started gigs late and ended early, giving his fans like one encore.

Well.. I know that Oakey never called himself the greatest, maybe the Muzik Mag of 99 CLAIMED him the best DJ .. you know that everymag calls a DJ as the best one for every year, and him playing the same records in other places does not bother me, b/c I will only see him ONCE and would not follow him everywhere he goes, although, if he comes back to the city where he spunn, his gotta obviously spinn some other records.. like at ULTRA he spunn some new and old stuff, and I love the set, for the reason that I never heard those RECORDS live, and he also played records that I been waiting to hear to be played, I wish I woul've heard some older stuff like Xpander, Gouryella or binary finary.. but they are old.. but I dont give, cause I still love those records.. Every DJ does the same thing, you just dont notice b/c you dont hear them spinn everynight, but if you record every single mix they do, you'll see that they'll play the same stuff as well.. just a few change of tunes, but as said.. everyone has its own point and opinion..
GREETZ
:-)

No shit.

The tunes Oakie plays aren't underground either. Ppl are calling them underground cuz they're not the usual anthems he spins.

PVD does spin the same tracks alot also, so does Tiesto and others... No crime, every Dj does it... Oakenfold does throw in new tunes and white labels, at least I know he did at Ultra and on some other sets I have heard..

There is nothing wrong with playin the same tracks on ur tour.
Most djs do it as someone already mentioned in this thread.
Nothing wrong with comercializing trance, its already in process, i dont see why u are so against it. I doubt you are gonna have 15 and 16 year olds listening to pvd and oakie, and i think older people will just help the scene. Its not like its so underground that few people know about it. Anyone that goes clubbing from time to time knows the trance scene.
