For salads just mix some olive oil and balsamic vinegar over the top, mix well and eat. Super good for you and my favorite dressing ever.

If you stay away from white starchy foods and dairy products youll be solid. Chicken, fish, salads, fruits N veggies, pastas with home made sauce, lean meat (more expensive but hey), and turkey are all good.

I mean, a piece of cheese on your sammich aint gonna kill you, but the constant influx of milks and yogurts and creams and cheeses that most people eat is disgusting.

Another thing to cross reference is the Glycemic Index. The lower the # the better. its a reference to see how much insulin your body will have to dump to convert sugars and stuff. Potatoes and white rice are bad, that kind of thing. Some real surprises in there.

Basically, stay away from everything most people in America eat. Red meats, fats and sugars, enriched white breads/pastries, and dairy products.

Fruit has a property in it that speeds the transport of fat through your body. Which is why old people shouldnt eat more than 4 pieces of fruit at a time, increases risk of clogs...anyways. Its a good thing to eat in the mornings and before work outs/during long hikes because the natural sugars and the aforementioned fat thing really boost your energy and are nice for bumpin up the old metabolism.

One mistake some people make(including myself) when they start lifting is they chase the weight. After one year of lifting all I was after was being able to lift more and more weight and getting stronger. I forgot about proper form and always lifted very heavy using low reps. As a result I became very strong(I max out at 405lbs on the bench), but my body did not look like I initially wanted it to look because I hardly had any definition and I had several injuries. Now I am going back to using proper form and lifting using 10-12 rep sets. I don't care if I loose my strength because its obvious that how you look is better than how strong you are.

depends on what your goals are. you can generalize like that. i myself lift for strength and size. how cut you get is going to be determined from your diet.

Well for me, I find that the pyramid method of sets/reps helps me develop both strength and "looks". I'll never be as strong as I would if I trained purely for strength, but strong enough. Plus a heavy day now and again helps with strength also.

Anyways, just a statement here, but I haven't lifted a weight in 4 months and i'm feeling the withdrawal. I love the feeling of the iron in my hands and on my back. I love the pump. I love the gym. I love the way I look after months of hard work. I will never stop pumping iron, no matter how long it takes me to heal, get the proper nutrition, and get back into the groove. Fuck you injury. You too protein.

Blah i'm typing while half asleep.

Well, today was my last day of pigging out... I had myself a bagel with roast beef, muenster cheese, lettuce and little mayo... and for dinner some bbq chicken with rice a roni.

My sister said its a bad idea to fast for such long periods of time because when you begin to eat again, your bound to gain back more weight than you lost. Its true though, because when you leave out food like that, your body begins to think that its starving and the next time you eat, it will store more fat (I learned this in health class also). She said if I was gonna do that, to do it once or twice a week, not for 3-4 straight days.

Orb, the only problem with the salad you mentioned is that I absolutely despise vinegar, no matter what kind, I hate the smell & taste. I have no problem cutting out starches and stuff, I went for a week without bread in general and was perfectly fine. As reluctant as I am to cook for myself in my house, I guess I wont have much of a choice if I want to loose weight... it would be alot easier if I didnt live with my parents that way they dont question my diet.

When I work out, I really dont chase weights, I just work out to the capacity my muscles can take.

What do you guys think about drinking protein shakes and/or fat metabolizer shakes?

For guys, and for guys who want to get stronger, I encourage the use of protien shakes. Essepecially shakes with whey protien, glutamine and some creatine.
