FIA seeking standard engine supplier from 2010
Formula One racing’s governing body, the FIA, has invited tenders for a third party supplier of engines and transmission systems to be used by competitors in the 2010, 2011 and 2012 world championships.
However, existing teams and engine suppliers could still be allowed to build their own engines, providing they are to the same standardised design specified by the third party supplier.
The move to a single engine is one of several ideas being proposed by the FIA as a means of further reducing costs and increasing competitiveness in the sport, which already has a freeze on engine development.

Yeah, total bullshit. What's the incentive for a manufacturer to remain in the series? It would be cheaper to run A1GP and there you at least get a copy of an F2004 to race.
F1 is about pushing technology and innovation to be the premier form of motorsport. Limiting the vision of power delivery kills any and all innovation. Why not allow MORE variety and not less? Different engine configurations? Different fuels? I liked the talk of no refueling stops since that would encourage economy. We know it's possible too since during the thirsty turbo era the cars could not refuel mid race at all.
F1 is about cutting edge, not cutting costs.
If they go ahead with this, F1 will end up being some big ticket spec series.
