Man, that brings back memories. A mate got one back in 2002 and we noodled around with it for hours. The saws on that ****** are great.

I made a quick demo for you. It definitely won't be the best one out there. I've been so busy at work that unfortunately I haven't gotten familiar with it still. So I whipped up 3 quick sounds from scratch. This is a very quick, rough demo, but I wanted to upload something since I said I would. Unfortunately I didn't have time to do a clip for the paraphonic mode but I did make a clip for the "unison mono" mode with unison detune which gives a pretty big sound for an analog "mono" synth.
NOTE: a reverb was added to all the clips. but aside from the reverb - the sounds are 100% unprocessed, straight from the Pulse 2.
========================================
Clip 1 (0:00-0:16)
3 x oscillators (all saw waves, osc 2 & 3 were detuned for a little phasing)
monophonic
a little bit of VCA tube overdrive applied
12db lowpass filter, halfway through the sound i opened the filter up all the way
========================================
Clip 2 (0:24-0:0:56)
2 x oscillators (both square waves)
monophonic
the filter cutoff is somewhat low at first, then i open up the filter cutoff, then i decrease the PWM on osc 1
========================================
Clip 3 (1:04-1:53)
1 x oscillator (pulse wave)
unison mono with some unison detune and some pwm
i play around with the envelope filter amount, then decrease it to a low filter cutoff, then open up the filter cutoff

Ive been considering picking up an analog hardware synth myself sometime but I really need to make sure I get one that goes with my sound like you were saying. The pulse looks quite badass and it does have a nice price point as well.
Thanks for the demo |
yeah that's the same impression I got from it, it has the "lively" and rich analog sound but in a more modern way. it doesnt have a monstrous sound to it, like a moog. some call it colder or thinner than traditional analog synths but the tradeoff is that it'd sit well in a multilayered mix with digital synths like you mentioned but there's no denying that it retains a very analog sound. I think it's a synth that retro-music producers wouldn't like but it's probably aimed at those of us that mix and match hardware synths and vst's. as much as I absolutely love the powerful moog sound, the pulse 2 just seemed to fit the niche I was looking to fill.
