Just wondering if you made a typo here. You say that major/minor chords use the 1st 3rd & 5th note of the scale. Shouldn't major chords be "W+W, H+W" ? 
Anyway I've read through your tutorial, very interesting 
So I gave it a shot, trying to figure out wether a track is major/minor:
Electric Universe - Morning Star (SAMPLE)
Tonic note: G
Major or minor?
Minor: Trying G+A#+D (Sounds good)
Major: Trying G+B+D
Conclusion:
Assuming the chords you mentioned in your tutorial are correct, it's a Gm !
