Not to mention that if they get asterisk'd, then players like Cy Young and Eddie Ciccotte's stats should be asterisk'd as well for using shine/spit/scuff balls. They were legal while they were using them, but then became illegal. Same with Satchel Paige's hesitation pitch. |
And Gaylord Perry's spitball. I agree you can never say for certain when they were using them, etc. It's arbitrary to whom gets an asterisk (how could one really decide) meaning it would never happen or should happen. But I think that the home run records by Bonds, McGwire, and Sosa are at least severly tainted and people like me won't consider them true. That's my mental asterisk. Obviously you can't go back in time and test them anyway. There's no proof.
I get ya, I'm not disagreeing here.
By the way, Jim Thome on the juice?

I wouldn't be surprised. Not many people would surprise me, to be honest.
But, personally, steroids or no steroids, Barry Bonds is the best player of my generation. You're a little older so it may be different for you. But as far as players I was able to see play everyday, Bonds is the best. Better than Griffey in his prime, even. And I love Griffey.
