Although I do agree that population is a factor when determining the number of potential good athletes you have, I don't think that is the measuring tool that needs to be used when comparing how well one country is doing against another. I would suggest a better comparison would be number of events competed in per medal. I don't have the numbers but I think that will give you a better comparison for how good a country is doing.

simple.....its judged by people and people make mistakes...that is why it shouldn't be an olympic event...all human judged events should be removed from the olympics.

The new system is better though....although it does favour difficulty and style and artistic impression in basically lost now....when someone can attempt to do a very difficult routine and fuck up and score a lot higher then someone who does a somewhat less difficult routine perfectly with flare and style....doesn't make sense
