But there's a more fundamental problem here: the question about what to do when people drop out. Replacing them with someone who wants to do the mix instead has two problems. It won't be possible in every case and it sort of defeats the purpose of this thing. So again, do your mixes, I'm sure people will be happy to hear them. But for further editions of this we need to have a clear rule about dropping out. Let me hear your ideas...

You have a good point. While I'd never personally spin acid house, it'd still be me working with something I'd be comfortable with. I was going to enter this but with university work I wouldn't have had time to track down stuff to use. I think I'll just wait for Round 2 and enter in that one.

I'm not saying that you get to pick a genre. The point is to get a look at what would await you in the challenge before you make the decision to participate. That way, people won't drop out of the contest, as they know what they are in for and are up for the challenge of a genre they know little about.

The way it is now, people have a quite good chance of being hit with a genre they hate. The inevitable result of this is that they won't bother to make a mix at all. In the end, it all boils down to how much of a surprise element you want versus how much success the whole concept will have. You can influence and push people, but you can't force them.

amen

italo disco couldnt possibly be further away from what i like... but i still made the effort to research this genre.. and even made 5 attempts to do this mix.. all in all, id say a full 24 hours of my life has been used on doing this mix.. regardless of how shit it might have been.. and regardless of how much i didnt want to do it.. i still did it

I've listened to Mr. Mystery, wotyzoid, Adam420, Ian, and Yohan's sets so far, they've all been quite enjoyable. I'm actually having fun listening to stuff from other genres, this has been a great idea (do another!).

I'll get around to the others eventually.

Yeah I have to agree that this has been great. I only listened to Mr. Mystery's and wotyzoid's, but I will get to the others.
