How is it fresh? Electro is older than MIDI... Kraftwerk were doing it in the 70s, Bambaataa and Mantronik made it relevant again in the 80s- it's arguably the oldest style of electronic music still popular.

Yup. The more stupid listeners who don't recognize quality, the more bashers are needed to, uh, bash them.

true it does get more attention because of its popularity and in that sense it is bashed more because people talk about it more, but i'm sure all the same people would still have the same things to say about it if it wasn't the big thing of the moment...the fact that it has become that big thing just makes it even more disgusting...

and as i already said...it's not even a bad sound...it's just been beat to death...i'm sure some of the people bashing wouldn't have as much bad shit to say if EVERY TUNE didn't sound the same...

Of course, but that sound differs quite a bit from today's electro. Hell, I don't even like all of today's electro.

Northern exposure with its beautiful soundscapes opened me up to a much more peaceful sound of EDM. As Sasha & Digweed started getting deeper, I followed along too. After Communicate" I think they peeked for me. Instead of going musical again, at that point they became too deep for my tastes. I was frustrated with prog/trance for about 2 years. And then I heard Markus Schulz. For me he Continued where Sasha & Digweed left me at 2 years earlier.

I apologize, and stand corrected.

Though I feel the arguments against American prog still stand.

No u must have like it because it's innovative/creative/fresh/not overplayed/underground/complicated. That's the definition of quality. Follow this formula and u'll never go wrong. Never be yourself, have a good taste in music.

In the end, it's a matter of opinion. Which is why this thread has, all in all, been a total waste of time.

One thing that i completely disagree with what Ory has been saying is that if you listen to shitty music (admitting that there is objectivity in classifying music as "shitty", when there isn't), you don't necessarily "suck". People have the right to listen to whatever the fuck they want, for whatever reason they find it attractive to their ears. I've got several friends which listen to what i think is awful music, yet they're nice people, and I'm sure most if not all of you know people like that too.

Another thing, while i'm a big fan of "proper prog" and only rarely like the odd "mcprog" track, i still think there isn't huge differences in the level of creativity and originality between the two. I just happen to prefer one of those standarts, because somehow it sounds more "real" to me. Probably i'll grow out of it one day like i've grown out of cheesy eurodance, epic trance, etc, but right now it's still one of my favourite kinds of music, if not the favourite. But this is just something personal, it seems most of you disagree a lot with this as well.

And as for electro, Sasha jumped on the bandwagon pushing quite some people into it... I love it as well tho

I never said that. I even pointed out that only part of the music I find in not-so obvious ways is good.

Jesus-fucking-Christ. I come back a day later and what do I see? This thread grows exponentially. All the points have been addressed and people still keep going in circles and ignoring them. Reminds me of a slight modification to a straw-man fallacy. I already addressed all the points needed. Some of us, more rational people tried to turn it into somewhat decent thread, where people would not act like 16-year-olds, who think that they are so-right and when people point out their wrongs, they start ad hominem attacks. Looks like it is impossible. I'll let the stupidity of this thread consume itself, I am done.

P.S. This is definitely COR material. It does not belong here.
