| quote: | | Transistion Harmonics i scored by listening to how each transistion flowed, if they fitted together nicely, U know how some DJ's can carry off a vocal line from the last track into the bass and synth sequnce of the following track and it fits so well, oooooo a couple of you managed that so well and was scored accordingly. Also the ease of how the 2 tracks blended, again some DJ's can pull off a transistion without u noticeing the change between one track and another at the cross over point, which again some of you also managed and was also scored accordingly. It was the ease of how the 2 tracks went into each other and if they felt right, i hope i make myself understood on that point lol. |
I just noticed something quite strange, and very detrimental to my chances of doing well in one of these comps.
The way a good transition is described above, is different to what a good transistion is to me. And my idea of a good one is based on the mixing styles I have been exposed to over the past 4 years.
It would seem that Dj's in Cape Town mix differently to the rest of the world. Our transitions must kick in nice and hard, but not alienate the ending track. A perfect example of this would be my mix of Barthezz - On the Move (Dumonde) into Dumonde vs Lange - Memory, when the bass of Memory kicks in on the 96th beat, I do a bass crossover on the levels of each track, dropping Barthezz's bass, and upping Memory's. I havent heard what would be considered a great mix to you guys, so I dont know how you guys mix.
My tracklist probably let me down, being full of older tracks, but i'm pretty sure that my beatmatching was VERY good, my mates said it sounded awesome, and it sounded great to me (I HATE beat-mismatching).
Oh well, mebbe I'll do better in the next one, guess I need to by some new tracks

I'd like to hear your mix, is it available for download? In my mix, I also did the bass cuts that you talked about, as well as some gradual fading mixes, so I don't think it has anything to do with "mixing style," but maybe the actual application of the style to the mix. Dunno if that makes sense, but yeah, I'd like to hear your mix to get a sense of what ur talking about..
