The popular vote has its quirks...but what do you do? Give seats based upon popular vote? there would never be a majority gov't and we'd have unelected officials in Parliament (e.g. no one voted in a Green party memeber, but they would have 7% of the seats? to whom are these MPs directly accountable? Their riding that didn't elect them???) |
I agree. There is no reason to change our first past the post in local ridings voting system. Having fixed elections is one thing, but I don't favour a proportional representation style of system that Jack Layton yapped about last election and that was defeated handily.
