It does look like it's worsening, unfortunately, but apparently it's not likely that there will be a full meltdown event. There is no longer a nuclear chain reaction happening, and there hasn't been for a few days since the control rods were inserted as soon as the quake hit. I would say that the evacuations are erring on the side of caution, which is wise, I guess.

The only way things could go very very bad, would be if the main containment parts inside the reactor(s) are cracked somehow.
Mind you, I'm no nuclear physicist :/ Hopefully they can get this bitch cooled down somehow.
