Exactly. If there hasn't been a full on meltdown and compromise of the containment vessels by now, the chances of it are even slimmer than they were at the start of the crisis, which was very slim even then.

Great, now I'm hearing reports that a 4th reactor has caught on fire and the chances of a meltdown is growing. There is also a chance that it could launch a radiation cloud into the atmosphere that could be carried over the US West Coast, but that is still in speculation.

I hope everyone who showed concern over this matter donates at least a small amount of money to the people affected by this catastrophic tragedy. I am going to donate through the Red Cross. CNN just announced that radiation has increased to a level that can affect human health. I fear that this plume may find its way toward the west cost of America. Lets hope for the best. God Bless to all that were affected by this apocalyptic event.

Anyway, this whole thing has had me both mesmerized and shocked. I can't stop watching, but it makes me want to cry. I can't believe what that would be like to go through. Those poor people... I hope that they recover soon.

It does look like it's worsening, unfortunately, but apparently it's not likely that there will be a full meltdown event. There is no longer a nuclear chain reaction happening, and there hasn't been for a few days since the control rods were inserted as soon as the quake hit. I would say that the evacuations are erring on the side of caution, which is wise, I guess.

If you have 10 mins spare, read through the link I posted earlier today:

http://bravenewclimate.com/2011/03/...le-explanation/

The only way things could go very very bad, would be if the main containment parts inside the reactor(s) are cracked somehow.

Mind you, I'm no nuclear physicist :/ Hopefully they can get this bitch cooled down somehow.

Are other countries helping Japan cool these things down?

It's not even close to being that simple.

Read the link I just posted.
