Far from me to muster any defense of Islam, but observing Salah is no more an implication of rigidity than a Christian going to church on Sundays.

But yes, his perverse views of religion and his place in the world were no doubt contributing factors to do such a thing.

Hey, if the shoe fits - there are a lot of people out there who are desperately seeking to belong or fit in, who become indoctrinated into various religions and become fanatics as a result. You realize that the number of people turned to extremism when looking for a religion to help them "fit in" or "belong" pales in comparison to the number of those who benefit positively from said religion, right?
