Guys, just an observation on all the trance sets I'm seeing on here lately, if you wonder why trance gets shit for all sounding the same, well think about it, you're all playing pretty much the same tunes! Only in different orders!

Where's the variety?

Maybe if we didn't post all our tracklists then we wouldn't be trying to imitate each other?

You cant mix other genres in a trance set, and there in is the problem.

If you are mixing progressive you can also mix in some breaks, or tech house. So you can move around 3 different genres if you so desire. If everyone was just mixing progressive house and only progressive house, then you'd see the same problem i think.

Another problem is you dont go into a store and see quality trance besides what is pressed on certain trance labels. Sure there is sometimes some unknown white label sitting there, but 95% of the time its shit.

what do u mean u cant mix up trance?

In a trance set you could play, prog, uplifting trance, tech stuff, breaky stuff, psy stuff.

J00F is great with his unique style, gotta love him

there is no way you could do it as smoothly though

technically you could mix house into trance, it would sound shit most of the time, but technically its possible.

i would also like to clarify that im talking over the period of 1 or 2 mixes. If you had a few hours, then yes you can hop around genres more easily. The tracklists in this are mostly less than or equal to 80 minutes.

I am not a fan of j00fs style either.

Exactly, hell you can mix RnB (wouldn't know why you would want to anyways) out of Trance if you wanted to, but doesn't really validate that it will sound good or smooth in anyway.

I wasn't referring to styles, but rather trance itself. Are the good tunes really that limited that you all play end up playing the same stuff? Is that the reality of the situation here?

I've heard Lanithium and the stuff he plays, which doesn't appear to come off the mainstream trance labels like Vandit, Lost Language etc, is that stuff really hard to find or what? Or is he a major trance nerd and the rest of u are just lazy?

Using matts last mix

01. Armin van Buuren feat. System F - From The Heart - United
02. Filo & Peri - Juicy - ASOT
03. Empyreal Sun - Intense Emotion - nfi
04. Astura - Orions Belt - nfi
05. Matt Hardwick vs Smith & Pledger - Day One (Above & Beyond Remix) - Anjunabeats?
06. Empyreal Sun - Twisted Reality - nfi
07. Afterburn - Wintersun - nfi
08. The Gift - The Seventh Day - ID&T?
09. Insigma - Avalon - ATCR
10. Dreas - Morning Snow - nfi
11. Firewall - Sincere (Pulser Remix) - ASOT

5/11 Tracks i dont what labels they are on, the other ones i think are right, and they are all popular mainstream trance labels i would say. Im sure in a few weeks when every one else gets the newest ASOT releases you'll see those guys playing these tracks.

Personally i usually only buy the popular trance tracks because they are popular for a reason, and im not wealthy enough to buy loads of other stuff, however if i hear something ive not heard before and its as good as the other popular stuff i wont hesitate to get it. I think good uplifting trance tracks are that limited, and by the time we usually get them they have caned to death by the top djs making them seem even more stale to some people.
