was watching footyreview on skysports and heard that woodgate never played more than 7 games in a row in the premiership!! always injured so u can see why they sold him.. boumsong is a huge and quick defender. saw him play last year for auxerre. hes about the size of campbell but quicker and would be a great buy. but as he only went to rangers in the summer i dont think u could get him. liverpool were linked if u remember but he opted for rangers in the end.. whyyyy!

Everton braced for Toon's Yobo raid

Everton are bracing themselves for a £7m move for Joseph Yobo from Newcastle.

The Nigerian central defender has proved to be one of David Moyes' best acquisitions and is reportedly on Newcastle's wanted list as they search for replacements for Jonathan Woodgate.

Newcastle, armed with £13.4m received from Real Madrid for the injury-prone centre-half, have registered an interest in Yobo.

But Moyes would be loathe to lose the £4.5m signing from Marseille if Newcastle returned with a firm offer before the transfer deadline.

Newcastle have a history of attacking football and forgetting about defence but this latest rumour just takes the piss:

Sky Sports:

quote:
Sky Sports News have claimed that Newcastle United have made a £20 million bid for Everton and England striker Wayne Rooney.

The Magpies are thought to have tabled the massive bid for the England international as they look to spend some of the money from the sale of Jonathan Woodgate.

Rooney's future at Everton is uncertain as he is still to sign a new deal at Goodison Park.

The club have offered Rooney a lucrative five-year deal as they look to tie him down to a new long-term contract.

Rooney has become one of the most coveted prospects in European football after his exploits at Euro 2004.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid have all been linked with the teenager, but now Newcastle are looking to steal a march on their rivals by luring the striker to St James' Park.

Magpies boss Freddy Shepherd has hinted that the club would make a surprise signing in the wake of Woodgate's departure and it appears they hope to sign Rooney in the biggest transfer deal of the summer.

Rooney could be seen as a long-term replacement for Alan Shearer who is set retire at the end of the current season.

How could any club keep Shearer, Bellamy, Kluivert, Rooney and Ameobi happy?!

The worrying thing is you can't rule anything out in the crazy world of Newcastle.

Personally i wouldn't want rooney playing for Newcastle, in my opinion if Newcastle bought him it would be a complete waste of money, when will Newcastle realise its defenders we need not forwards. The likes of Chopra are never gonna come through for Newcastle when were buying more forwards.

Ameobi has the potential to be a class player but now its all down to whether he gets the chances. I cant see any chance that he will get on before Shearer, Kluivert or Bellamy unless Newcastle are hit with injuries.

Personally i cant see many Newcastle fans being happy with decision to buy Rooney. The majority of fans want defenders.

Lets just hope its not true.

£20 million wasted in my eyes.

Surely Freddy knows his credibility is on the line after selling Woodgate? He has to bring someone in, espescially after saying "you will be pleased with what happens, all will be revealed soon".

Newcastle has a ton of strikers and I think Rooney is just surplus to what they already have.

Would like them to get King from Tottenham or that Argentine who plays for Milan but is loaned out to Spainish clubs each year.

Rooney isn't needed. If Newcastle was to sign two strikers which you mentioned i think most Newcastle fans would be over the moon. I really do think we need to sign 2 defenders with the money as when 1 is injured it really does show with results.

No bid for Kuffour - Bayern

Bayern Munich have denied reports suggesting Newcastle have made an approach for Ghanaian defender Samuel Kuffour.

Liverpool have also been linked with the commanding centre-half in recent days but Bayern insist no offer has been lodged for the 27-year-old.

"No offer has been received by us," said a Bayern spokesman.

Kuffour is, nevertheless, thought to be available if any club matches Bayern's valuation which is believed to be in the region of 6million euros (£4m).

He is out of contract at the end of this season and is not guaranteed a place in Felix Magath's starting line-up due to the arrival of Brazilian international Lucio from Bayer Leverkusen.

Anyone know anything on this player? £4 million valuation? Dont seem much? How does everyone rate him?

Davenport wanted by Newcastle

Newcastle are understood to have made a £3m bid for Coventry defender Calum Davenport.

The Magpies are urgently seeking a new central defender after selling Jonathan Woodgate to Real Madrid last week.

A host of star names have been linked with a move to St James' Park, but unsung 21-year-old Davenport has been regularly scouted by Newcastle.

An England Under-21 international who was linked with Arsenal two years ago, Davenport is ready to leave Highfield Road after Coventry chairman Mike McGinnity admitted there was no chance of keeping him.

But McGinnity insisted: "We are looking for a fair price. A fair price for the club and for the player."

Gallas going nowhere, warns Mourinho

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has reiterated that any Newcastle bid for defender Willam Gallas will be in vain.

Despite tabling a failed £20m bid for England striker Wayne Rooney, Magpies manager Sir Bobby Robson is looking for a replacement for newly-departed centre-back Jonathan Woodgate.

But French ace Gallas will not be leaving Stamford Bridge for St James' Park, according to Mourinho.

"There's no chance of William Gallas going to Newcastle United," said Mourinho, Robson's former right-hand man at Porto and Barcelona.

"In fact, there's no chance of William Gallas going anywhere. He stays with Chelsea."

Robson is also an admirer of Gallas's team-mate Robert Huth, but Mourinho has also already stated his intention to hold on to the 20-year-old German.

Last night The Times claimed that Newcastle's bid for Rooney was a conspiracy aimed at starting a phoney-bidding war with Man Utd at a low starting price, therefore doing Man Utd a favour and we would get O'Shea as a reward if it worked.

This is typical of the kind of shit the media have thrown at us all summer as they desperately try to ruin Newcastle's name.

Today the official Newcastle site released the following statement:

quote:
United Deny Rooney Conspiracy Allegations

NEWCASTLE United vehemently denies the allegations made in today's Times that it has been involved in a conspiracy with Manchester United and/or Proactive Sports Group about a potential sale of Wayne Rooney by Everton.

Those allegations are offensive and absurd. The suggestion that Newcastle United would be helping one of its main competitors secure one of the most talented players in Europe is bizarre. The club has already confirmed its interest in Rooney and the club has been working on the bid for a number of weeks. He would be a tremendous asset to the club.

Newcastle is taking the allegations of conspiracy very seriously and is currently seeking legal advice.

Time to hit back at the media for all they've said about us this summer.

Woodgate's Real exit enabled Rooney bid, says Robson

Newcastle manager Sir Bobby Robson admits his club could not have bid for Wayne Rooney without first selling Jonathan Woodgate to Real Madrid.

The Magpies' £20m bid for the Everton striker has been rejected. It is an ambitious move by the Tyneside club but one Robson insists could not have been taken had Woodgate not been sold for £13.4m.

"You can't buy Rooney unless you sell Woodgate,'' he said. "Even Manchester United can't buy Rooney. The most famous club in the country can't buy Rooney.

"We made an offer for him - they can't make that offer. I know Sir Alex and he would love [Rooney].''

However, Robson also insisted the quest to recruit Rooney will run in tandem with their efforts to replace Woodgate.

The Magpies were furious at suggestions on Tuesday that they had only tabled their offer for the 18-year-old in order to pave the way for his move to Old Trafford and at the same time get the green light for a move for defender John O'Shea.

"We are trying to do two things,'' Robson added.

"The possible purchase of Rooney will not stop us bringing in a centre-half."

Newcastle really aren't for real. If Rooney was to come to Newcastle, the chances Ameobi would be on his way out.

Newcastle Forwards: Shearer, Kluivert, Bellamy, Rooney, Ameobi, Chopra.

Just aint gonna happen.

Robson makes case for defence

Sir Bobby Robson has admitted he fears for Newcastle's season if he fails to sign a top-class centre-back before the transfer window closes.

The Magpies manager has revealed his frustration with the difficulty of finding a replacement for Jonathan Woodgate before 31 August.

Robson is understandably excited about Newcastle's bid for Wayne Rooney, but admitted: "If we don't get a centre-half we are risking a certain situation within the club.

"We're looking for a quality player - a genuine quality player. Someone who we know can play in the Premiership, not a long-term prospect.

"But you will appreciate it's not easy. I see a lot of names bandied about - which is fine - but we've got to persuade clubs to sell.

"It's fine to try to get William Gallas, but Chelsea won't sell.

"We're being quoted more money for some players than we received for Woodgate, but we're still trying to bring in the type of player we want."

So Newcastle want Rooney and a top clas centre back? Its one or the other bobby.
