great analogy! heres a better one
if i had food in my teeth from lunch, and all day people knew, even my closest friends, but no one told me. It isn't until I get home and check the mirror that i realise. (or maybe because everyones acting funny that I begin to suspect)
now maybe some people would prefer to not have anyone tell them, so that they can be spared the humiliation of having to fish it out in front of them...and maybe some people, upon finding out don't care, or judge the effort of cleaning their teeth too much, and don't bother. However, for myself I would prefer a friend, or even a stranger to tell me as soon as possible so that I have the choice to deal with it
Also you say that its not anyone elses right to tell you that you are getting cheated on, but I could equally say that by NOT telling me, my friends are deciding if i have a right to know, which is worse than giving her all the information and then supporting any decision she makes (to stay or to leave. To make a big deal of this, or to pretend its not happening). Either way, i believe that the decision should be hers, not yours or any of her other friends. shes a big girl. she doesn't need someone else deciding if she can handle the truth. how horribly condescending of an attitude |
The problem with your analogy, Spitty, is that it presupposes people close to his wife knew and she did not... we don't know that either of those presuppositions are true and the OP (and/or her sister) did not know either. So the argument that she was saving her pride doesn't really work here. Additionally, your analogy would also require that she find out at some point (if she didn't already know and was wilfully ignoring), which we don't know would have happened. Ultimately, it remains that no one has the right to choose for her.
