so is there any real prog out there that isn't so dark and bassy yet doesn't qualify as McProg?

I think a more melodic form of unformulaic music would be damn near perfect.

I disagree with the statement "Trance by nature is predictable." I think that the only rule of trance that is set in stone is that there must be hypnotic repititions. The rest of the stuff just happens among the biggest trance musicians, not because of the nature of trance but because of the nature of crowds, hype, and marketing.

It isnt fair to belittle all of trance for the things that not all trance is doing.

I guess you could say trance is predictable due to its repititions, because all repititions are predictable, but then I just wouldnt bother arguing anymore because real prog also revolves around repitition, so liking prog for its repititions and hating trance for being predicable would just mean that people prefer different kinds of repeating sounds and that is a matter of opinion.

If music that isnt repetitive is your measure of "objective quality" then I'll just go away to enjoy my predictable sounds without you.

dare I say that Xpander is not prog, but moreso just a different incarnation of trance? It sure wouldnt fit inside the sets that people are calling prog. And the melody is not very exciting either, the emotion it gives off reminds me of that fake happiness everyone pretends to have at funerals where they try to mask their grief by remembering a person's life.

I can listen to proton all day and never hear any of this prog that supposedly exists(as I have done many many times), its either this dark rumbling farting shit or stuff that would fit in a markus set. Of course there is the rare exception when someone plays something from another genre, but it all has this melancholy mood that I don't find conducive to an exciting happy party at all.

I imagine this station that you prog heads praise would have this awesome exciting sound out there since it is supposedly this great source for real progressive music. I find the meloncholy prog vibe to be very predicable and boring, despite how original the structure and sounsets are.

thanks you dude, it took way too many pages, but that was all I was trying to get, I wont argue any more until I've heard a bunch of these tunes.

If you all were a little bit easier to get recomendations out of maybe the good sounds wouldnt be so damn hard to find.
