As stated previously, I think most of the time our feelings/expectations for an event are generally high and we are easily let down.
I would say this has been the case for me the last few years. I am pretty much at the end of my partying days and am sometimes hoping to re live the crazy experiences back in 2001-2005 (more so 2001-2003), which is just not going to happen. Partly due to the fact that it aint as much as an adventure any more, its not 'new and mysterious', nor do I have a large crew of friends that are in the same boat as me. Nothing beats these experiences when you are with a great bunch of 'up for it' friends.
I would also agree that a party is what you make of it, if you really wanna have a good time you will make sure of it and ignore the things that generally give you sh-ts which is generally a lot more as you get older. As I dont go out much, when I do go out I try and enjoy myself!
Once upon a time I would go out in a heartbeat, didnt care who was playing or where it was. Nowadays I am much more selective. The key criteria being probably sounding like a grumpy old man now)
1. DJ's I currently like or would like to see
2. An expected good atmosphere and vibe.
3. Expect room to move on the dance floor and be able to see the DJ.
4. Friendly up for it a crowd. With similar mindset to me. Love chatting to people.
5. No stupid lining up.
Standard stuff really...?
I went to Future hoping it wouldn't be like Summadayze and I could experience something similar to a summadayze of old back at the bowl. Unfortunately I was wrong in most regards. I had an OK'ish time in the end and am glad I went in the scheme of things. But I think that if points 3 and 5 were met I would have had an awesome time as I would have gotten into it SO MUCH more. Even if I didnt really agree with what some of the DJ's playing and where they were playing (like bateman said). I also just refused to line up and get mangled on the dancefloor, despite some of the other annoying things I managed to turn a blind eye to.
The main reason for my not having such a good time is because Future are massively over selling these events now which is beyond ridiculous. Nothing more than greedyness and obsene money making. This is easily summadayze part 2 for the year. Gone are the days where you could easily find a spot on the grass, get a drink, then have a quick wander on the dance floor for a boogey. I remember being on the dancefloor for the full day at summadayze 2001-2002 and never had issues finding friends or square centimetres of space.
I can't see future selling less tickets to these events in future. Because of this it will take a bit to get me back to the Myer Music Bowl. I could easily say right now I wont be going back again...
