It's 1984 over there. Scanners haven't made their way to Australia yet. Without them, department store workers have no way of knowing whether the goods were purchased there or not. Hilarity ensues.

Actually, he was pulled up a couple of times when they scanned the barcode and the computer wouldn't take it. Most times, they just took it anyway (must be a computer error!). The other times, he just said "Oh, sorry, she said it was bought here, I'll ask her again".

I've returned a couple of things there though, and there were no questions asked. I bought a belt that pretty much started falling to bits after a few days, so I took it back (with the receipt). The chick at the counter didn't even want to see the receipt, she just have me a store card with the value of the belt on it

barcode scanners read anything that has ever been in a company's catalogue. ie virtually any DVD or CD at a place like myer.

Oh yeaaah, I forgot about Australian wine. That's ONE for you guys. ONE!

I have to say in Australia you can't just go everywhere with a credit card or eftpos card, and the cash you end up with is massive and heavy.

I virtually never use cash here in NZ, you can use plastic just about everywhere except open air markets and hawkers on the street. Also the coins here are nice and tiny.

Australia's answer to this: ATMs in bars, lol

Really? I hardly ever have cash on me, and use my cards everywhere

And some of our money is almost identical to Kiwi money! So similar, it can be passed off with no worries.
