Guys, haven't had a chance to read the entire thread, but relax. Survival instincts kick in

Everyone said this after the downfall of Napster, then again after Audiogalaxy went titsup.com So if DC hubs are shut down, then we all move somewhere else like Soulseek, or somewhere else entirely

Hahaha people chill. It's not like the hub is gonna get shut down. They're just targeting a small group of very large college campus hubs which are used mostly for sharing pop. That's it.

I know people get pissed off when they're favorite file sharing hub goes down the toilet. But I for one am more upset about the general attitude the RIAA is taking in the situation they're being handed. The RIAA is stuck holding onto technology of the past. They have no will to adapt to the times. Cd's are not going to be the media of choice in 10 years.

It wouldn't really surprise me if they decided to send us all back to ATRAC or something. That seems to be the way the general intelligence of the association is headed.

It sucks to see any of the hubs being targetted, but as has been said above, I don't think this is any concern for the EMC for the time being...

The RIAA doesn't have unlimited resources, and I doubt they'll go after any but the largest hubs. The EMC is a great place for TAers to get music, but it's extremely small scale compared to the hubs that are actually being hit by this.

What else do you expect from an organization that was put together to protect corporate interests? Getting upset at the RIAA for being backwards asses is like getting riled when a corporation cuts jobs to save on costs, pointless, and practically inevitable given the current economic system.

I don't know about the longevity of CDs either, at this point it's not as though it really matters, all of my quality stuff on vinyl and CD is easily converted over to computer files, and my computer is quickly becoming my home stereo system with CDs only being neccessary for my car.

Frankly, I could care less what the mainstream labels are distributing stuff on, Trance/Prog and the other dance genres are always going to come out on vinyl, hence, always be rippable, hence, always be easily kept on a big fat HD and shared with other people via the file sharing system of the week.

The RIAA can try to fight that, but I don't think it's a fight they have a chance in hell of winning at this point. Once high speed connections became standardized it was already well past the point of stuffing the cat back in the bag.

In other words, screw em, they're fighting a losing battle for artists I don't give two shites about

Indeed. High-speed internet really does equip the standard consumer with the ability to have music at their finger-tips on a readily available basis. My only problem with the RIAA is they only saw digital music as a threat to their market, and not a possible way to stay up-to speed in their marketing tactics.

when will they learn that there really is no way of stopping the distribution of mp3's... as long as we have computers and internet, there will always be a way to exchange mp3s. and when they take down one group(napster,audiogalaxy..etc) another 5 will surface.
