I have to disagree with some of ur posts...
naturally

Its simple
If you want to hear new tracks spun by armin, listen to his radio show, cant get newer tunes then that.
His livesets are different, but if he didnt drop those tracks we would never experience them in that kind of environment, think of what we would be missing out on.

If he didnt do it we wouldnt be able to tell our grandchildren how great it was to hear infront of 8,000 people.
I like his style, i like the way he interacts with the crowd, from this interaction you can see that he is in it for the love of music and it's not just a job.

I really liked armin @ GK02.

Didn't like him that much @ TT03. My guess is coz he was the only headliner in that room, and had to cater to the crowd.

When a Dj comes down here, i wanna hear fresh, new shit. stuff that i'll be chasing on the net for weeks and then chasing again for the vinyl. Prog dj's generally do this (although some are heading into a 'retro' phase ala Sander K dropping My Lexicon @ TT).

Take Dave Seaman @ QBH anzac day 2002, the amount of bombs that he threw down simply tore the place apart. first time i heard hamel's remix of gorecki, Fused - terror and of course, cosmos - take me with you. i walked away smiling, grinning, enthusiastic about the shitload of tracks headed our way. Thats what i want from a live set.

Of course, chucking in a retro tune now and again is fine, ala Armin @ GK02 playing his remix of 7 cities. was the first time i heard it out...LOUD... and it was brilliant. but frankly, hearing armin resort to such 'hands in the air' anthems as born slippy was, in my opinion catering too much to the 'dumb nuts' out there. after hearing born slippy played by underworld... i don't want to hear it played by dj's at gigs. it'll get a response for sure... but its a cheap shot... so to speak.

Yeah well i agree in the fact he could have played some newer tunes
i dont think he even played north pole or as the rush comes

however, he is still an amazing dj, my fav at the moment and has been for a while
i dont know any1 else who can keep up that level of energy for 3 hours...not a dull moment in his sets in the 3 times he's toured here

Put yourself in the DJ's shoes..... youve got a crowd of say 10,000 people, the majority of which are NOT devoted trance addicts. If you just play new stuff which the undevoted dont know your creating a recipe for dancefloor evacuation. That will undoubtedly leave you unable to get another gig out here in Aus (or at least not at the same price) and thus you just lost an entire market pretty much!!

In a small intimate gathering of 1000-2000 people, you can be guaranteed that the majority ARE devoted trance addicts and thats when you drop the new stuff because thats what the addicts want....

Its all about reading the crowd, and thats one thing that Armin has got!!! He can definitely read a crowd!!!

It just comes down to the debate between entertaining and educating. Top Djs do both. Armin has killer killer new tracks which are ball tearers despite not being established. Just mix it up. Obvisuoly in an event like TT or GK there's gonna be for an angel, seven cities or strange world, but there should also be your cdrs and your whitest of the white labels.

keeps everyone happy, which is not easy by any means.

its interesting to not just how many people wouldn't be able to name seven cities or strange world if they heard them.

every time armin drops seven cities, the crowd kinda pauses going 'what is he playing ..hey this is great'. so even classics like solar stone seven cities isn't recognised by the general audience ...thats just how dumb they are.

so his sets are a mixup of recognisable tracks, new material, and dependable classics such as seven cities (which just so happens to be one of my alltime fav tracks because of boundaries of imagination).

pvd on the other hand swung wildly in his set between brand spankin new with chakra 2 doors, to robert miles children. he couldn't maintain a nice steady rhythmm to his set programming.

well, certainly by some standards they wouldn't have been new.

i was using the term 'new' relative to the amount of time the wider trance community would have heard it on an ASOT, and the two months till pvd played it to an aust audience.

...and another fact on this is that events nowdays are so commercialised like TT2003 even has it's own ads on TV, and inside Metro there were like motorola ads nonstop on the big screen and ad banners plastered everywhere.

I'd like to see once in a while where events are invitation only (devotees TA's who always hunting for infos in forums and so on can send email address to RSVP or something), by doing that DJ's can drop their latest and newest tune because only devotees and addicts will be their audience that particular time.

eheh cool :P

godskitchen 02 was the first time i saw armin in the flesh. i had been hoping for years i'd hear him drop seven cities while i was front and centre. told my friends i'd be running around like a headless chicken if he dropped it.

he dropped it. fanfuckingtastic i swear.

then he did it again at tt03. not as special as hearing it at GK02, but still very enjoyable.

great track, great memories, nothing else needed to be said :P
