i like the look of the tracklist for nyana so im interested in getting it, but if someone would be able to say what they mean with the ordinary mixing then that would be appreciated
i mean is there lots of missed beats or tracks out of sync and stuff throughout the whole cd? or is it just 1 or 2 tracks maybe not queued right or 1 or 2 missed beats or something?

hi phil,

without gettin too technical with details, mixing comprises of mainly these:

1. beat matching [syncing the beats]
2. equalizing [adjusting levels of high, mid and low levels of both tunes so the ranges dun overly clash]
3. harmonics [ensuring the tunes are in key]

a good mix to me, is one where i can barely identify the transition because the flow was that smooth. Such a transition requires a high level of skill for those three factors above. What tiesto lacks in his mixes, is mainly in the beat matching department. If you have a closer listen to his transitions, the majority, you'll find are slightly out of sync. just a touch, and not as tight as they could be compared to other djs. Because of that you can easily tell when a song is brought in. its often unoticeable however, for those who don't mix, which is a good thing, as it allows you to enjoy the tunes + the flow of the mix without fussing over the pedantics. but yea, the transitions are a lot more obvious to a trained ear.

tho isos3 is one of my fav cds, the majority of isos3's transistions are in that manner. from the top of my head a big example is introducing solar coaster. another which sucked was bringin in southern sun but that's more so to do with harmonics.

i'm not sure if u've had a listen to nyana yet, but in cd 2.
the transitions that definitely raised my eyebrows were

Smart System - Morgentau (Spring Mix) -> Leama - Requiem For A Dream (Leama's Dream Mix)
POS - Remember (Summer Sun) -> Solid Globe - North Pole

these were pretty damn ugly, even for tiesto.

with that said however, tijs i think is a prince in harmonic mixing. i dont think any other dj will match him in that department. his track flow is unbelievable. any tom dick n harry can beat match, but entwining pure harmonics is a real musical talent.

anyway, i better stop procrastinating from my assignment.
phil, hope that somewhat helped.

hehe well then dude i think i am safe cause i just had a listen to those transitions on ISOS3 and they sounded fine to me!! maybe i'm not harsh enough (or maybe u are too harsh ) but as far as i could tell i could only hear one "doof" so it was fine to my ears. as long as nyana isn't really a lot WORSE than that consistently throughout the cd i think i will be buying it. thanks for the info, but when u say "Because of that you can easily tell when a song is brought in" obviously when you are playing 2 songs at the same time you can hear them, and thats the only time i could tell, when i could hear the melody or the strings or the synths or whatever other than the beat.

for somebody who isn't familiar with the genre, or even the tunes, believe you me, they don't realise. i remember a friend havin a listen to some nik fish album and she thought the whole hour was one tune.

hehe harsh? nah. i like isos 3. i'm only a bitch when it comes to my mixing.

why don't u get fucked?
maybe some people care about presentation and value for money? anyone these days can chuck songs into a program and get a mixed cd. i happen to like looking through photos and notes, or dj comments on the tracks they chose and why.

Im with philby here!! I can download the entire CD at home for free, why should i shill out my hard earned doosh on something, which presentation wise, i could have created with a burner and an inkjet printer???

When are record companies gonna realise that presentation goes along way towards the decision to purchase a CD..... it may not be number 1 but its certainly up there!!!

I totally agree ISO3 was nicely package and it enhances the whole CD and its breaming with quality, tiesto even had his own thoughts on what each songs he played...
NYANA on the other had is cheaply packaged with no thought put into the cover its just a two pager with photos, no real message from Tijs or anything nothing it made the CD feel worst than it really was..
that was my 2 cents

i downloaded it, i know it robs the artist of what their effort deserves but i live in the "country" the nearest city is a hole
they have a sanity store but its pathetic.
My mate ordered some dvds there and they took months to get them in
like >2months...

i do enjoy this album, i'm not a huge critic, i like most trance (even what some call cheese) and i agree, disc 2 is a lot better than disc 1.

Bought it today @ sanity dance arena. Pretty damn nice, haven't stopped listening to it since around 5pm. (Hrm, should sleep soon)

Oh and JayKue, that's cd 1, not 2... any guesses which option JayKue took?
