They're 2 different genres.
Don't mix genres more than they already are..

You can't say it will never happen because it probably will eventually. I can't see it happening in North America any time soon and I hope it never will.

I would say that the majority of people who listen to hip hop do it because it's the cool thing to do but there probably are some who listen to it because they genuinely like the music. If trance were ever to go mainstream I would be upset because I'm sure that there would be those who would accuse me of listening to it because it's cool. That's definitely one thing that would tempt me to switch to a different style of music if the situation ever arose but I don't think I would even if that happened, I would just wait for the fad to pass. I can't see myself giving up trance for anything else.

Just heard 50 cent - p.i.m.p (armin dub) its amazing...

Just thought i'd make yall laugh. But it might happen one day, rock merged with hip hop, pop merged.. hope trance never does.. and thats why i love it the way it is in the states. Its pretty much underground and i want it to stay like that.

edit: oh i just remember, Oakensold did a track with Ice Cube titled 'Get em up' and it was on his Bunkka album. The track includes house/trance elements and Cube rapping over them... 'GET EM UP NIGGA' he says... Damn, so i guess it merged. I remember playing that track in my car one time, and a friend of mine (rap fan) was like 'yo bro hook me up with that shit' ... ehh i can see it now.. we gonna lose!!!!!!

then you should be listening to rap, you scared pasty white child….

I dunno if this comment is aimed at me, or just a sarcastic remark in general, so I'll just leave it as it is. I lvoe hip hop and trance, and that's that.

ONO ITS THE SAVIOUR OF HIP HOP!

Rrrrarr!! Yes that must be it! I'm a saviour because I express opinions.

Also, hip-hop is a culture wave hitting North America right now, it'll pass just as all other culture themes have passed, we just can't say what it will be. Remember the 60's with the rock and roll, 70's with the disco, 80's with the grunge rock, and then 90's with the boy bands, we'll see something in the future, just who knows? And also, as you can see, hip-hop is aimed at the younger generation, as people mature and get older, many people fall out of the hip-hop craze (as I did) because it isn't exactly the most mature genre/culture out there.

I completley disagree with you. Hip hop has always been a part of youth culture since it's birth back in the days...nothing represents the individualistc youth culture more than hip hop...listen to some rhymes by Gangstarr, A Tribe Called Quest, Jurassic 5, Dilated Peoples, Nas, Wu Tang, Talib Kweli, Mos Def(These two BTW I think are literally prophets of our time...) and you'll see why. Hip hop isn't a phase thats going through North America...maybe in the pop culture, but then again, that isn't hip hop so that doesn't count...
All I'm trying to say is that issues like this shouldn't even be concerned with...so what if trance replaces hip hop, whats gonna happen? More importantly, WHO FUCKING CARES? Just listen to the music you love.
Oh yeah. And fuck everybody else who thinks what you do isn't "cool".

First off, I think this whole thread has strayed seriously...the question wasn't "Would it be bad if Trance became commercial?" hasn't that already been beaten to death on here?

You're not going to see a bunch of teens who think they're thugs walking around listening to pvd

(now don't go ranting on me saying I think all ppl who listen to hiphop are thugs...thats not true.. but any music that has lyrical content that helps one vent against society/the state of the world is embraced by rebellious youth (a-la punk/heavy metal/rock of old))

Fantastic point Swamper, this was on my mind immediately when I started reading through the thread as well.

Rap and the mainstream rock in North America is just as concerned with the 'hardcore' image and venting aspect as it is with music.

Trance is *never* going to be able to (or want to for that matter) give off an image like that effectively IMHO, and as a result it's going to remain a more niche thing.

Sure, there's another group that is interested in it because of the 'underground' aspect (aka: the elitist snobs that permeate any music scene with a smaller following) but that comes with the territory.

By and large your teenage audience that's trying to pretend they're in control bad asses are not going to be singing along with the new Armin track or grooving on Sasha's latest. And I'm not saying this as an indictment of all teenagers, as we have many on here, and I'm not saying that Trance is better than anything else, as it's just another musical genre.

I simply think that reality is that given society as it exists in North America (ie: very 'tough guy' image oriented among teens, even adults) that a clearly emotion based music like Trance is going to have a hard time catching on in any huge way.

Not likely. Besides I dont care either way. And its kind of sad how so many people dont want it to become popular so they can "keep it to themselves".

^^^^^ So true. I've totally learned to appreciate other people's music, but it seems to me that people just listen to rap and hip-hop because of the attitude that goes with it. They think it makes them special somehow.

I know that doesnt go for everyone, i've got mates who listen to hip-hop, but not because it makes them "down wid da bitches" but because they enjoy the genre.

Better? No. Unique? Yes. I'm like a lot of other TA's. I do feel that liking trance as much as we do and knowing as much as we do about it makes us unique. There's just as much culture to trance as there is hip-hop, more-so maybe.

There's not another genre out there (that I know of) that has such close bonds between artists and fans as trance does. How often will a member of a rock band recognize a fan from a previous gig? Not often I bet. Yet I know a fair few people who are instantly recognized by top DJ's, just because they met them for 5 minutes on a previous occasion.

In that sense at least, I think TA's (and the producers and DJ's that go with it) are very unique.

Again, people are taking the p*ss out of us cos of the way they feel they have to act. Hip-hop is full of messages of rebellion that influences people far to much. If they're happy living their life in constant fear of rejection just because the music they listen to isnt cool or the attitudes they have aren't "badass" enough, leave them to it. So long as you listen to what you like, and don't let other people put you down for it, that's what matters. And hey, at least everyone else here knows exactly what you mean.

Trance isn't just a type of music - it's a religion. The people who follow it are decent people. You could go to a club by yourself and end up with a bunch of new mates 4 hours later. As far as I know, that just doesn't happen with other genres (especially hip-hop) - and thats why I like trance.

Be proud people - TRANCE 4EVA

I agree with you. Hip Hop will always dominate Trance, why? because Not only the black community, but other communities as well can relate to the lyrics that are put out there. Dont get me wrong i think they go overboard plenty of times. but as long as history remains, so will the hip hop culture. [ if you dont know what history im talking about, then you need help ]I cant say i like one genre over any other, but i do listen to trance more than any other, what im trying to say is, dont limit yourself to one type of music. why? because music is what brings all cultures together and without it, there would be no peace. So put all your differences beside and appreciate it for the skill that makes music music.

~P.S~ Just Enjoy Music For What satisfying reason it brings to you, no matter what it is, just enjoy what makes you happy.~P.S~
