trust me it was luck.
landon donovan played in 2nd division german league and he did horrible, the progress america is making is ok. but europe is goin at a faster pace. maybe because the people support the team? but anyway america wont catch up

and as for MLS team beating any club on their homesoil.
maybe. i saw metrostars vs ac milan and it was 1-1,was 2 years ago. i think before schevchenko joined. but i doubt any MLS team can take Milan now,or any top european club team

If the US doesn’t make the quarterfinals in 2006 it would be total surprise

I wouldn't say it was luck that got them to the quarter finals, but the traditionally awesome teams weren't up to their best in last year's world cup meaning the smaller sides did pretty well. The US didn't have any star teams in their group, with Portugal, Poland, and Korea. Don't get me wrong, they're decent sides, but they avoided the groups with the big guns like Brazil, Germany, Italy, Argentina etc. Then they were drawn against Mexico, not exactly the hardest game in the world. Their first taste of world class opposition they were knocked out, which happened to be the quarter finals. They gave Germany a bloody good run for their money but this is the same German side that failed to qualify for the Euro 2000 finals and was thrashed 5-1 by England in 2001 on their own turf, ie one of the worst German sides in a long time.

All in all it was a good world cup for the US and I don't think they were "lucky", they were one of quite a few underdogs who impressed last year. But if Italy, Germany, Holland, Brazil, Argentina, England, France, Spain etc all find their amazing form again it'll be a much more competitive world cup next time.

Yeah, it is a poor German team who struggles to get a draw against Scotland

USA has some good quality players, Reyna always showed his class when he was with Rangers and the US has always had high quality keepers!
