If trance would die for nothing having changed, shouldn't techno die too then? I wouldn't call anything dead, because everything is evolving towards a different sound, otherwise it wouldn't be progression. If you were to pop open a song, say... Out of the Blue, that's an oldie, and compare it to Out of the Blue 2002, it sounds a bit different, right? A bit more current? Why's that? Because the sound of newer songs has infact changed there has been newer remixes (ie. Airwave/Breathing)

Anyways, I disagree with people saying all these genres are dead, I think we're all too caught up in all this "this is dead, that is dead" crap, if the music is good, listen to it and enjoy it. Why does there have to be a label on it?

I guess I am one of the few people that listen to it all. I get in moods for more melodic trance, or perhaps some hard trance. I think the best djs and sets are those that go through the entire spectrum of dance music and don't focus on one genre.

But honestly, I hope trance will not necessarily get commercial, but get played on the radio at least. It would be nice to have a station at least like ASOT or Ritz or even just local djs. . . doesnt have to be all trance 24/7. Even better, it would be sweet to see our fav djs on tv and stuff. Im sure you europeans prolly get that already, but not in the States. When i saw tiesto on cnn, i was seriously gonna tape it.
Nowadays, more and more ppl are getting a grasp on trance so i think producers are trying to reach more ppl by either going cheezy or going harder. And its apparent because djs dont play just trance. . . . they play a mix of prog, trance, house, and breaks. I dont know that many ppl anymore that can listen to trance the WHOLE night.
Im not complainin, i honestly get bored of trance if its played all night long. And from my personal tastes, its good to hear nice melodic trance hear and there, but I go clubbing to dance my ass off, not to cry to songs.

As has been said before, things are changing, I think that doing the same things for long time gets bored, but there are new producers (at least new productions) that are quite interesting, at least I'm quite happy with the last releases I've got. And I must say that I'm really a trance fan.

Ok...first of all just because Xpander is made by Sasha DOESN'T FRIGGIN MEAN ITS PROG!!! Xpander is progressive trance! Open your ears a little bit. If the BPMs below 140 to people these days they get all 'intelligent' and call it prog.

And get real; As the Rush comes is like the 'Sandstorm' of prog. It's nothing at all like what real prog is...it's definatly more trance based...

and I know "Nothing" is a great track...but it ain't the only track...there are tons more tracks that could beat that one out.

anyway...yeh trance is dying. hey-disco died and look what happened to it: trance...and trance was a hundred times better than disco...so who knows what 10 more years will bring, right?

Comming from a former prog-hater, I gotta tell u folks, you just need to diversify... It's one thing when you're looking for something to put you in your 'euphoria' state as x is boiling in your blood, it's another to listen to the music soberly. Here's my take. Trance is like p0rn - e.g. u see too many pics of the same stuff it gets boring. u listen to the same track progression in the same fasion and it gets dull after a while. there's no element of surprise in tracks anymore. and some tracks are like single use. e.g. it's awesome first time u hear it but next time is like watching "6th Sense" for the second time - it's no longer interesting, as the element of surprise is gone.

Here's another approach to this. Did you know that it's a lot harder to produce quality trance track than prog track? I'm not talking about ATRC, that's like 50/50 between prog/trance. I'm talking about your prog track that oakie cans, etc...?

Let's put it this way, i'm trying my hand at producing and the easiest tracks for me to create now are prog-sounding... why??? I don't have to worry tooo much about synching up your "trademark trance build-up" to MIDI/Drums and like 30 tracks that make track sound "full"... I can take my korg, hit one note with drum backing, arpegiate the crap out of it and then just tweak the knobs to modulate the sound... I can stamp out prog tracks at the rate 20/day.

One more or less "quality" trance track takes me about 2 weeks to put together, i"m not even talking about finding a unique "hook line" or fancy drum track to go with it. I'm not generalizing - there are some awesome prog that takes a serious effort to produce and is definitely hands-down brilliant but sadly they are rare to find. Also, some prog grows on you as you listen to it more than once. It all depends on tastes, mood, association with music, scene, people, environment etc...

Music always changes - it's made of waves and it is a wave that always changes. there are no two waves alike, sadly trance has taken for the most part a sadly redundant form. what sucks is that there are actually samples that allow you to "cut and paste" trance track now, instead of building it like before. as u listen to most "trance" today and it sounds the same:

drum beat===>>fade in synth line==>>raise freq==>>>intro pattern==>>>build up===>>> peak===>drop down===>>> outro pattern==>>>fade out synth==>>drum beat

take 90% of trance and you'll see the pattern.

so it all comes down to the fact that perhaps there is less quality trance produces because it is so much easier to dish out prog, considering most of trance today sounds the same?

DJ like PvD or Armin they "read" the audience. whatever audience responds to is what they play, with your "staple" tracks thrown in between. It's not that hard as you think. so, perhaps it is just that people stopped responding to trance which sounds the same?
