What about 'Umek - Gatex'?

No 4/4 beats there.

Surely techno is more dependant on 4/4 beats than trance.

So what you're basically saying, by challenging my statement, is that it's more common for techno to be beatless than trance now?

Strange.

NO, frankly I did not understand your statement in the beginning, so that is why I asked that question. 4/4 is more common with house but then again producers are innovating and using everything to make songs these days.

Gatex is iffy – While I agree it is first and foremost a Techno tune, play it in a trance set properly and it can get away with being trance.

People, in general, take a too exclusivist perspective with trance which is why there is so much bitching about how “it was better back in the day” and that very few good trance songs are being made.

Tunes with out a beat sure can be called trance.

i think the theory of "trance" music is that the beat is supposed to eventually put you into a trance-like state, and if thats correct then without a beat, a tune couldn't be trance...beatless stuff is ambient.

truly, any music that has the power to take my mind to a different place I consider trance music, but if its the more conventional definitions you are looking at, no not really. The only "trance" song I could see being considered trance without any drumbeats is a track that you would lay over the top of something else, like an a capella

Umm... don't use terms like that.
4/4 marks a time signature, not the amount of beats used.

And Wavy Gravy isn't even trance.
