While social acceptability plays a big part, I think the regulations of the local authorities plays an equally big part.
I think of weed as being completely separate from other "drugs" because of its less physically addictive quantites and the fact that it's not as mind altering.
caffienne is considered as a drug because it's highly addictive, and alters your mood, and yet, nobody seems to think so....
conversely, alchohol is more dangerous than marijuana has ever been and yet people still think marijuana is so bad. |
Agrees.
Coffee and Tobacco are big business and as Trancearmada has pointed out, big government cash cows.
I've been around it all my life and see it used mostly as a crutch, much like alcohol; cept alcohol does far more damage...
It's amazing how much damage "Reefer Madness" has caused...
(and how much mis-information there is).
I don't smoke it myself just because it's not a novelty for me but I have been known to have a toke now and again...
But the biggest reason is my wife is hyper-sensitive to narcotics...

| quote: | | Well what about cigarets, they are more addictive than weed and kill more people a year than weed. And it's legal, you could say the same thing for alcohol. Alcohol has ruined a lot of families and kills a shit loads of people every year. But no both are considered to be good taxable drugs, from which the government makes shit loads of money... |
Well, of course alcohol and tobacco kill way more people than weed. Not nearly as many people smoke weed! You can say all you want about how weed is not as bad as tobacco or alcohol, but the fact of the matter is - weed hasn't been researched nearly as much as tobacco or alcohol.
IMHO smoking weed all the time does make you slower and stupider. I've known a few people who've been smoking all the time(once, twice a day) and they are really slow. Their short-term memory is fucked ! Cigarretes on the other hand - well, at least they don't fuck up your brain.
Having said that, everything is ok in moderation. The problem with drugs is that few people only do them once, and as soon as you start doign it - how do you know if you are doing it in moderation or not ?? Another problem is that you don't notice the side effects immediately. I've done my share of pills, there are no side effects yet, but who the hell knows how am I going to be 30 years from now..

That's just not true. There has been plenty of research on grass and thc, but most of it was done in the 60's and 70's; here in the US, getting grass from the government for research is nearly impossible. It's one thing for everyone to know the truth in theory, it's a whole new can of beans when it becomes fact.
The government in the US is just absurd. They absolutely refuse to admit that they made a mistake in classifing grass in the same category as coke and heroin, so the charade continue's, until one of our states finally gets the balls to legalize it. I think after the first falls, the domino effect will ensue, god only knows when that will be though.
If they were smart, they'd legalize it and fund the countries public school's via grass taxes, but no one ever said the US was smart, just strong.

Well once upon a time in 1776 Thomas Jefferson signed his name on a piece of marijuana, and this document was a symbol of freedom and of liberty, at least for the rich, white, gentry. And time marched along, this plant that I referred to has been used for everything from medicine to the American flag. And now it seems to me that somewhere along the way things got messed up, yeah, messed up, for marijuana.
A gift of God to my brothers and me. Oh marijuana…the government wants to test me when I pee.
Well some say a conspiracy, ? chemical and ? paper industries combined to kill the competition, government hysteria, monopoly, and conflict of interest, with total impunity. Yeah, so, if you don’t buy the conspiracy, just look at the reality that your tax dollars go to spray poison on the fields of a farmer in South America. And as an added bonus, your neighbor might be the proud recipient of that poison weed.
Oh marijuana…the government wants to test me when I pee. Oh marijuana…a gift of God to my brothers and me. Oh marijuana…you can’t legislate your own morality. Oh marijuana…the government wants to test me when I pee.
Free from madness, chronic sadness, what is the half-life of bad propaganda? The policies fail, denied bail, you made him a demon now pay for his trip to prison. Hard to promote the status quote, but what is the shelf life of bad legislation? The hypocrite smirks, it’s a moral disgrace as he reads from the law that was written about the same time that he had his last original thoughts. Men said he was dying and the nausea and the pain left him wasting away and unable to keep a meal down. So he tried everything prescription could obtain but to no avail. The side effects were worse than the pain. So now he breaks the law to use the one thing that seems to help him out. But the people say, “Oh he’s just gettin high.” Not to change the subject but, didn’t you ever wonder why getting high’s a crime. Yeah a crime.
Oh marijuana…a gift of God to my brothers and me. Oh marijuana…now the government wants to test me when I pee. Oh marijuana…the government wants to test me when I pee. Oh marijuana…the government wants to test me when I pee. Oh marijuana…the government wants to test me when I pee. Oh marijuana…(this is the part where everybody would sing along) when I pee.
