See, no I completely disagree. The reason why tuition costs in Ontario specifically (go to B.C. and tuition is less than $3,000) is because the Ontario Conservative party has rolled back on education subsidies since their election win under Mike Harris in 1995. Tuition as a total fee for a basic science, arts or social science program in Ontario costs around $10,000 a year. The Ontario government now pays less than 50%. Tution as UWO in 1988 was $1500 a year....15 years later it is over $5200. That's what...a 300% increase? That's certainly NOT inflation.

I'm a little surprised how right wing some of you guys are on here (this doesn't apply to Desidel directly)...

yeah but how could you expect a total tuition freeze, that's equally as crazy .. and about the right wing thing , hey i voted for the other guys!

(btw. check the same sex marriage thread to see how many lefties are on this board..)

damn and they call me whiny

well no, all of u have very valid points and that 300% "inflation" kinda shocked me since i didn't know any of that stuff.

for me, i ask dad... dad wires money, i go pay. Think of it as an investment. Rather than putting the money in the bank, u put the money in me. What i do with the money is learn and after i learn and graduate, i can get a job and apply the knowledge and start a new cycle! i work, i save, i send my kids to school, they graduate, send their children and so on and so forth.

In my point of view, i see it as a system that seems to work specially knowing that i'll graduate in 4 years and i have an excellent chance of landing a 45k+ job on my first year. Either way, i don't let tuition fees bother me or get in the way or worry. Yes, it's a lot, yes, we go broke and make our parents broke as well but... c'est la vie.

This is where my frustration lies, partially....the image of the school seems to be justifying the ridiculous tuition in the eyes of those who don't know any better. Truth is, many many MANY companies didn't give a shit if I went to Ivey or Queens or York.

Well, it's not just the image of the school.. I'm sure the profs that are teaching at Yvey are charging a lot more than professors at other schools. You probably have top notch businessmen teaching there. Why should they charge you little??

Btw, tuition for computer science students has grown over 30% over the past 3 years.. When I started my per-term tuition used to be $2,900. Now I'm paying $4,000 per term.

BTW, paying your own tuition isn't very smart( no offence here). If you can get an OSAP, you should do it. Think about it this way - right now to earn say 1000$ it will take you(assuming you earn 10$/hour) 100 hours.. When you graduate it will take you (assuming you earn 25$/hour) 40 hours.

So what would you prefer ?? working 100 hours now, pay for tution and be poor rest of the term, or borrow money, have 1000$ in your pocket(from 100 hours you've worked), and then pay your tuition upon graduation after only working 40 hours..

Think about it...

PS, of course if you cannot get OSAP, then this whole argument is useless.

Yeah, I can't complain much. Its a little under $5000 this year. I get a $3000 bursary anyways...

I know people in the states who come here, because its cheaper.

I guess people just like to complain about everything... so I'll complain about how apartments close to campus are so expensive!!! hehe, I just moved into my new bachelor... too embarassed to say how much I pay for it. :P
