His examples were bad, but his point no less valid.

What model would you rather follow, the Detroit one or the New York Islanders one?

He makes a good point there. Detroit has used this strategy to win more than a handful of cups, and we'd be winning cups too, if we had to money to fork out.

But my question is this? Why can't we afford the best players, when the most expensive game to see on average is a Toronto home game?
And no excuses about the dollar and crap because montreal and vancover are way down on the list.

Age old question my man...

It's not like Toronto doesn't have the money...they are one of the most successful Hockey franchises out there...

Thumbs up Leafs sign Jamie Pushor from the Penguins

quote:

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Thursday that the team has added defenceman Jamie Pushor to their Kitchener training camp roster on a pro try-out agreement.

Pushor played 76 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins last season, recording four points with three goals and one assist.

The native of Lethbridge, Alberta has played a total of 503 career NHL games with Detroit, Anaheim, Dallas, Columbus and Pittsburgh, posting totals of 57 points on 13 goals and 44 assists with 646 minutes in penalties.

Pushor, 30, enters his eleventh professional season in 2003-04 and was a member of Detroit's 1997 Stanley Cup championship team

Good? Bad?

If you want the cup, this is the year, since next year will most likely be a lockout.

There isn't shit in the free agent pool for defensemen. The leafs aer constantly competitive, and are in a weak conference, so when the weaker teams start to drop and sell off some good talent cheap, look for teams to fill the gaps that way.

i don't think you can compare the leafs and colorado/detroit in this regard. the leafs are relying heavily on these old geezers while not breeding young players to replace them after their 1-2 year contracts are up. detroit and colorado have trained players like hejduk, tanguay, drury (he's gone), datsyuk, zetterberg, fischer (ok... he's no superstar...) detroit and colorado have excellent scouts and farm teams... toronto has nothing. the best homegrown player we have right now is nik antropov... most of the guys on st. john's are there for life...

Oh well...at least he's not some kid without experience...

I'll leave it up to the regular season to decide...

I'd say that's mostly because of the old guys they keep hiring...

The Leafs do have young talent, they just don't get the ice time...

Indeed, It's sad but true, I'm not saying we don't sign good players. I'm saying that we don't buy the BEST players and why do they always have one big weak denfesive line, every year there's one.

Thats a great point. Everyone accuses detroit and colorado of buying teams but any hockey analyst will tell you they also have some of the best drafting/development programs in the league.
